Lenora's POV
I transformed into my human form, tucking Raven away. Fortunately, I had a few hours before I would feel weak like that again. I darted my eyes around, trying to find anyone else. The man before me had a smile on his face as he watched me.
The look in his eyes was as though he was staring at some trophy. I gave him a quick once over. From the way he was dressed, he was a guard. Did he follow me?
I approached him cautiously, my heart racing. The man jumped in that air. “Yes, finally!” he exclaimed. “I have found a way. I was going to inform His Majesty”.
“No, you-”
A howl interrupted me. It was loud and fierce. I looked over at the skies. That howl spread even louder than mine. I was not so sure who might have made that sound, but it was not a problem for me. I dropped my gaze to the man, and he took to his heels.
“Stop!” I yelled, chasing after me.
He ran to the side, heading deeper into the forest, which was good. That way I could get him on time before he found a way back to the mansion. I didn't want to use my wolf's speed, as I was not sure who else was around. I kept to his tail and not long after, the mansion gates came into view.
“How-” I looked around.
“He tricked me” I folded my fists in anger.
The man sneered at me as he kept running, dashing into the premises. I didn't mind and chased after him. He headed for the back door but last minute; he took a turn, heading for the main door. I followed. “Lenora” Amber pulled me back.
I had not seen her. She hugged me, but my eyes were fixed on the path the man has followed. “I was so scared when I didn't find you” she pulled away, moving my face to look at her. “Did you hear the howl? It was frightening”.
I hummed, taking my eyes back to the path. “It was”
I could no longer see the guard. “I'll be back”
I tried to move away from Amber's grip, but she held me firm. “You can't go anywhere,” she said sternly. A tone different from what she had ever used. The look in her eyes screamed something I was not sure of, but before I could understand it, she smiled. “Let's go in. It's not safe” she pulled me into the building.
I reluctantly followed. If I fought, I might have to reveal why I needed to go so badly and that I would not want to do. I love Amber, but she was not the best person to hold a secret. I kept my eyes over my shoulder. How was I going to find him now?
A shattering sound made me look ahead as Amber jolted in fright. She held me even tighter, darting her eyes around. More things came crashing down, and more people came down to where we stood. No one understood what was going on.
Then I spotted that sly. I peeled my hands off Amber's grip and rushed off without a word. “Lenora” Amber called, but I ignored her.
The man noticed me before I could get to him and went off. I went after him. I knew whatever was happening right now was disrupting his plan, but I would not let it stop mine, and that was to stop his plan of ruining my life with my secret. I could not be exposed.
We ran through a hallway and slowed down a bit. He was not a young man, so I could guess he was tired from running so much. I grabbed him by the arm before he could increase his pace once again. I opened my mouth to speak.
“Lenora” I heard Amber's voice, and she was close.
Quickly, I pulled the man into the closest room and clasped his mouth with one hand and the other his both hands. He tried struggling with me, but I had to use Raven now to hold him down. “Stay” I commanded.
“Lenora” I heard Amber call some more.
We remained quiet as I listened to her footsteps move away from the door. Once I was sure she was far enough, I turned my attention to the man. The room was dark, but thanks to Raven, I could see him. I let his mouth go, but his hands were still firm on the wall.
“I will get good money from revealing this secret of yours,” he said, pride in his voice.
“What do you want?” I asked. I knew situations like this could only end up being a transaction. Begging him would not work.
He said nothing, just smiling at me. “Please, I'll do anything for you to not say a word about what you saw,” I said.
He was quiet for a moment before nodding. “Fine” he said. “I'll tell no one”
I heaved a sigh of a relief, releasing my grip of him. “But on one condition,” he added.
I should have expected that. I sighed. “What condition?” I asked.
“Guards!!” the commander of the guards yelled.
I glanced at the door at this. I turned to the man and was about to speak when the door flung open, the commander at the door.
