Liliana, get rid of it and never play such games again. But if you try to keep it or play such games with me again, I promise you that my face will be the last thing you see on earth before your terrible journey to the other world. I swear to you, Liliana, I swear to you. My knees gave out on me, and I collapsed to the ground, tears in my eyes. Oscar had broken my heart yet again, but this was the last time it would ever happen. I would never do anything to endanger my child. It had been my everything from the day I discovered it, so nothing, not Oscar, and certainly not his threat, could make me hurt it. Wiping my tears, I decided to flee, to pack my belongings, and to leave the palace and its surroundings, or perhaps Sturgeon Moon and her surroundings, never to return. ~Liliana . After ten years. "No, there would be no need for additional medications; if you stick to what I have recommended, I promise you, you will be fine in no time." I smiled as the man across from me went through the list of drugs I had just written him. "Just go down the hall to the right, hand the paper to the chemist there, and everything else will be taken care of for you." He nodded again, "thank you, doctor, you are truly a lifesaver," and I smiled as he stood up and exited the office. I picked up the next patient's file, read over it before ringing the bell to signal her in, and added his file to the list of cleared patients. She came in, welcomed me, and I responded with my trademark smile, as I have done since the day began. If you had told me ten years ago, with the circumstances surrounding my runaway, that I would be sitting in a well-equipped office, interacting with patients and counselling them, I would not have believed you. 10 years ago, I made the brave decision to save my life and the life of my child; 10 years ago, I was hurdling the streets with a round, wide, and strange stomach trying to make ends meet; and ten years later, I was proud of the accomplishments I had not expected to make. "I'm terrified, doctor; what if I die?" What would happen if my children lost their mother?" I grinned at her terrified voice, my subconscious trembling in fear for my sake. How would my child fare in the absence of his mother? "Mrs. Pete, if rushing for my life was enough to preserve my life, sticking to meds will undoubtedly do the same for you. And, unlike some other patients, your illness was detected on time, and if you cooperate with us and take your medications as prescribed, your illness will be gone in the blink of an eye." "And I'm afraid my son may have it as well." He had a cut that was contaminated with bacteria. Is this a hereditary disease? I wouldn't want any of my children to go through this." "No, ma'am, it isn't, but you can bring your kids in for testing, and I'm sure that will provide you with the comfort you require." "Of course it will. Thank you very much, doctor." "I am delighted to assist." When the door was shut, I let my lungs expand. Her question made me recall the night I decided to quit Sturgeon moon pack. Even ten years later, I was still concerned about the threat hovering over my and my son's heads. We were marked people, and death followed us wherever we went. Putting down the patient's file, I grabbed my purse and dashed for the door, just in time to see a colleague stroll in with his hands full of flat files. "Are you going somewhere, doctor Ana?"" He inquired. I nodded and took a few steps back to give him ample room to walk in and place the files on my desk. "Welcome home, Maynard. "I have to get home to my son." "How soon?"" He arched his brow and c****d his head. "I am two hours past my closing time, sir, isn't that enough for you?" I moaned." "Of course not, Ana, I see, and I appreciate your assistance and everything you've done to help this hospital, which is why I'm telling you to take my offer." Consider it a prize for your efforts." "Here we go again, May," I grumbled. "And I assume I'll be working alongside you?"" "No, I will be working alongside you," he said, with a little smile on his lips. Come on, Ana, you're already the top doctor in our area; just accept my offer and you'll be in the best spot you can imagine." "Fine, May, I'll sleep on it," I sighed even louder. "I will be waiting for your response," he smiled, "but don't take too long, Chester wouldn't keep waiting for you." He grabbed up his files and exited the office. Maynard's offer was nice, but it wasn't the first one I'd received over the years, all of which I had to decline because they required me to leave my current pack. Waxing crescent pack was the place that saved my life and the life of my child; it gave me a new and better life even when life dared to destroy me, and it was already giving my son his fair share of a good life; I was already on top of my career, and leaving the pack would have the same Adonis effect as staying, so why move at all? I straightened my shoulders, exhaled deeply, and exited the office; I loved my job, but I loved myself and my son more; if waxing crescent was a place that calmed my mind and provided me comfort, there was no way I was leaving. Waylen came racing out soon he saw my car come in, despite his nanny's protest, and I smiled at my little bundle of joy, my little reminder of who he was and who I ceased to be ten years ago; an Alpha king and a weak and orphaned omega. "You're going to be home early today, doctor Ana," Danica, his teenage nanny, said as she finally took hold of Waylen. "Yes, and hopefully, I have relieved you of your burden for the day." "I... I enjoy working with you, ma'am, Ana." "It's true, Waylen, we love having you with us," I remarked, lightly touching her cheeks. "Of course, mommy. I like having Danica around." "I only had a less busy day at work today," I chuckled, "but you are welcome to stay with us until you are ready to leave." "All right, ma'am," I said as I took Waylen's hand and let go of my purse, which he had been fussing with, and led him into the house. "Are you Doctor Ana?"" Danica called, and I turned to face her, "you have mail today. "I kept it on the table for you." "Yeah, mom, it's lovely mail." "It is, indeed, a beautiful mail," Danica chuckled. With a raised brow, I entered the dining room and selected the yellow envelope in the centre of the table. As my eyes flashed through the familiar seal on the envelope; the royal seal of Sturgeon moon pack, my heart skipped a million beats at once. I tore the envelope open with shaking hands, took out the letter, and scanned over it. My heart slowed slightly since it lacked the content I was afraid of, the threat to kill me and my baby. I read the letter again, taking long breaths this time. Dear Dr. Ana Dario, the royal house of Sturgeon Moon pack writes to you with great sadness. Our pack is on the verge of extinction as a result of an illness that has attacked our pack. We've heard of you and the miracles you've performed in treating cases identical to ours. We beg your assistance and request that you come and assist us in rescuing our pack, our existence, and our heritage. We hope you hear our requests and respond as quickly as possible. Thank you very much.' With each word I read, my heart filled with rage. The 'royal house of Sturgeon Moon pack' had written me a letter ten years before to get rid of my son, and now they were pleading with me to help them save their pack. How was I expected to assist the Adonise who wanted my son...his son dead? Or was my son not a member of his pack? I folded the letter and shredded it into little pieces, hissing loudly. Maybe, just maybe, I'll take May's offer and relocate to Chester. ~Oscar. My perked up ears listened intently to the conversation and whispering coming from the ground below me as members of the high court and other elders filed into the complex and courtroom. From my window, I could see people approaching in tiny groups of twos and threes, some of them hurling angry glances in the direction of the royal chambers. "Are you prepared?" I shook my head at the familiar voice, not in denial, but in disgust of his choice of words. "You sound like people I should be afraid of," I answered, my gaze fixed on the window.
