The next morning, I forced myself out of bed earlier than usual. My body was heavy, but I ignored the weight pressing down on me. I dressed carefully and chose a plain blouse and slacks. IT looked decent and professional.
When I stepped into the living room, Maximus was already there, slipping his watch on, his expression sharp as always. His eyes immediately scanned me, narrowing at the sight of the bag slung over my shoulder.
“You sure you’ll be fine?” His voice was calm.
“I’m fine,” I said quickly.
He stood still for a moment. “If you wanna change your mind, you can tell me.”
I finally looked at him.
“I already decided. If I don’t show up now, they’ll have more to talk about. I can’t let the rumors grow worse.”
He frowned, stepping closer. “The rumors are true anyways.”
