Once outside, Malekai turned to go to Cassie’s parents to pick up her vehicle while Cassie and Jax made the short walk to the clinic. The mood had shifted, and Jax was walking silently as patches of snow crunched under their feet. After a few minutes, Cassie could no longer take the strain she felt from her friend.
“Do you want to talk before we do this and you are stuck on a long drive with just your thoughts?” Cassie asked him as she looped her arm in his.
“No. Not really,” Jax sighed. “I had been doing so good, and then things just came crashing down on me. I wasn’t expecting it. I should be fine once I start driving and can crank up the music to drown out my thoughts.”
