CHAPTER TWO

705 Words
"That jerk! How could he do that to you", Paige cried out. Paige was Eva's best friend and as soon as she heard about the divorce letter, she rushed over to see Eva. "I don't know" Eva cried softly, curled up in a ball. "But it's too late now, he is already on the way to the lawyer's office." Paige stared at her in shock. "You mean you actually signed the document?" "Yes Paige, yes I did". Getting up from the floor where she had been sitting for the past thirty minutes, Eva dusted her body and ran her hands over her face. Her face was red and blotchy, and it was very obvious that she had been crying for a long time. 'There's no point crying over spilled milk." 'Spilt milk?! Your marriage ending is NOT spilled milk Eva", Paige spat in anger. She was angry at Stefan for letting go of a woman that loved him so dearly, and she was mad at Eva for acting like it was no longer a big deal. "Paige-" Eva warned Paige. She wasn't in the right mental state of mind to start an argument with her best friend. 'Let's close this topic." Paige looked at Eva and noticed how uncomfortable she was about the topic, so she decided to drop it. "Okay fine". Eva's eyes brightened but became dull almost immediately. She just remembered that she had to start packing to leave the house. She took her seat again on the couch and a single tear ran down her eyes. "Eva?!" Paige said, worried. "What's wrong?" "I need to pack" Eva said, finally standing up again. She rubbed the tears off her face furiously and said to a confused Paige "He's moving in with his Ex, so he asked me to move out" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Are you sure about this?" Alfred, the family lawyer asked Stefan. "I mean this is a rather hasty decision. I can give you a few days to think about it if you like, so that you don't make any decision you might eventually regret." Clenching his jaw, Stefan drew out "I'm sure" Alfred gave him an inquisitive look. He was the lawyer that settled their marriage 3 years ago, and he was the same person dealing with their divorce. He knew it was an arranged marriage from the beginning, but he felt that he ought to have at least little feelings for the poor girl by now. He looked at Stefan who had a bored expression on his face, as if he was desperately waiting for him to finish so that he could go. Alfred decided not to waste any more time. "I'll start processing the divorce, have a nice day" Alfred said, indicating the end of the meeting. Stefan got up and walked out of his office before releasing a deep breath. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Hi" Maya cooed over the phone. On hearing her voice, Stefan visibly relaxed. She had that effect on him. With her, he always felt very free and his walls always came down but with Eva, he always felt tensed and he could never open up. "How are you, love?" Stefan replied, a soft smile playing on his face. He leaned againt the car window, observing the scenery as his driver sped down the highway. "I'm very good. I hope you're eating well?" Maya asked, causing Stefan to chuckle. She always asked him if he had eaten or not and it basically became their own thing. "I haven't had time to do that yet, you know I'm still settling the divorce situation. I just left the lawyer's office right now by the way. We just finalized everything" Maya became silent. Stefan knew she wasn't all that confortable with him divorcing the daughter of one of the most influential families. He was very sure she wouldn't agree,if not because she actually liked him a lot. "Hey" Stefan said trying to calm her down "It's alright" She took a deep breath "I'm already packing to come over" she said changing the topic. "Good, hopefully Eva is already packing as well" Saying that left a bitter feeling on his tongue, but as usual he pushed it to the pit of his stomach.
