Chapter 9: The Forgotten Archive Silence swallowed the Grand Hall. No one moved. No one spoke. Even the musicians had lowered their instruments. The mysterious traveler remained standing at the center of the hall, the crescent-shaped stone resting quietly in his hand. King Kael descended from the royal dais one measured step at a time. Every noble watched him. Every guard tightened their grip on their weapons. “What is your purpose here?” Kael asked calmly. The stranger met his gaze without fear. “To prevent history from repeating itself.” General Varek stepped forward. “Your Majesty, this man entered the palace uninvited.” The stranger smiled faintly. “I was invited.” Murmurs spread across the hall. Lady Serena folded her hands. “By whom?” The stranger’s eyes drifted toward the ancient banners hanging above the throne. “By a promise made four hundred years ago.” The room fell silent once more. Master Aldus slowly approached. His hands trembled as he stared at the crescent-shaped stone. “I never believed one still existed.” The stranger turned toward him. “You’ve spent your life searching for forgotten truths.” Aldus nodded. “I have.” “Then you already know the name that everyone else has forgotten.” The old scholar swallowed. “Lunaris.” The stranger inclined his head. “You remember.” Kael’s eyes narrowed. “I’ve heard that name twice in two days.” He looked between Aldus and the stranger. “No one has explained what it means.” The stranger’s expression became solemn. “Because no one alive was meant to.” Across the hall, Lyra listened carefully. The name echoed inside her mind. Lunaris. For reasons she couldn’t explain, it felt… Familiar. As though she had once heard it long ago. A faint ache settled behind her eyes. Images flashed through her thoughts. Moonlight spilling across white stone. Towering trees with silver leaves. A young girl laughing beside a quiet river. Then… Darkness. The vision vanished. Lyra steadied herself against a nearby pillar. Old Brenner noticed immediately. “Lyra?” She blinked. “I’m all right.” But she wasn’t. The strange memories felt real. Too real. The traveler looked once more toward the King. “There is something you must see.” Kael remained cautious. “What?” “The truth.” General Varek stepped between them. “This is madness.” Rowan didn’t answer. He had been watching the stranger since the moment he entered. Oddly… Nothing about the man felt threatening. Only… Ancient. The traveler reached slowly into his cloak. Several guards immediately drew their swords. He paused. “If I wished your King harm…” His calm voice echoed through the hall. “…I would not have walked through the front gate.” Kael lifted one hand. The guards lowered their weapons. Slowly, the traveler withdrew an old iron key. Unlike ordinary keys, its handle was shaped like a crescent moon. Rust covered much of its surface, yet the metal seemed strangely untouched by age. Master Aldus gasped. “The Archive Key…” Kael looked toward him. “You recognize it?” The old scholar nodded. “There are stories…” He hesitated. “No.” “They were dismissed as myths.” The stranger smiled. “Most truths become myths after enough years.” He stepped closer. “Beneath this palace lies a place no king has entered for centuries.” Kael’s expression hardened. “There are no chambers beneath the palace.” “There are.” The stranger’s voice remained calm. “They were erased.” Lady Serena watched every exchange from the edge of the hall. She noticed something no one else seemed to see. The stranger wasn’t looking at the King. Not really. His attention kept returning… To Lyra. She followed his gaze. The young noblewoman stood quietly beside the flower arrangements, completely unaware of the significance of the attention she was receiving. Serena’s thoughts raced. Who are you, Lyra Elaris? The stranger finally turned fully toward Lyra. Their eyes met. For a brief instant… The noise of the banquet disappeared. Only silence remained. Then he spoke. Not loudly. Not dramatically. Simply… As though stating a forgotten fact. “The moon remembers you.” Lyra froze. “What?” Before anyone could react— The crescent-shaped stone in the stranger’s hand began to glow. At the same moment… A warmth spread through the small birthmark hidden beneath Lyra’s sleeve. She gasped softly. The light lasted only a heartbeat. Then it disappeared. The stranger closed his hand around the stone. “It has begun.” Deep beneath the palace… Hidden behind walls no map recorded… A massive pair of ancient stone doors trembled. Dust drifted from their weathered carvings. One by one… Symbols shaped like crescent moons began to glow with pale silver light. Something had awakened. And for the first time in centuries… The Forgotten Archive waited for someone to open its doors.
