The spy

--- *CHAPTER TEN: NIGHT 2 OF 6 - THE SPY* - ANA POV* Night 2. The courtyard. 8 feet apart this time. My scars burned less when Lucian was closer. That should’ve scared me. Instead it just felt... right. _‘Stop,’_ I told myself. _‘He’s the Alpha who cursed you.’_ Footsteps. Not Lucian’s. A guard walked past the gate. Too slow. He glanced at us. Then kept walking. Weird. Guards don’t do rounds at 2am. _‘Lucas?’_ _‘I feel it too,’_ he said. _‘Someone’s watching.’_ Lucian stood up instantly. Gold eyes scanning the shadows. "Did you see that?" he asked me. "Which part? The guard or the fact you moved 2 feet closer?" His jaw ticked. "The guard." He walked to the gate. Talked quietly to two other guards. When he came back he looked pissed. "New guard. Says he’s from the east border." "And?" "And we don’t have an east border guard on rotation tonight." My blood went cold. Frostwood. "The curse isn’t the only thing hunting me," I whispered. Lucian stopped 8 feet away again. But this time he wasn’t looking at the moon. He was looking at me. "Then we hunt them first." *- LUCIAN POV* A spy. In my castle. During the trial. _‘Of course,’_ Lucas snarled. _‘They want her for the ritual.’_ The guard was gone by the time we got to the barracks. But his boots were still wet. From snow that only fell on the north wall. North wall = Frostwood side. "Lock the castle down," I told my beta. Then I turned to Ana. She was rubbing her arms. The silver was brighter now. Stress made it worse. "Come on," I said. "Where?" "My office. No windows. No spies." She followed. Quiet. Inside, I shut the door. 10 feet apart. Then 8. Then 5. I didn’t mean to. "You need to stay where I can see you," I said. Rough. "Is that an order, Alpha?" "Yes." _‘It’s also because you’re scared,’_ Lucas whispered. I ignored him. Ana sat. Pulled her sleeves up without thinking. The scars glowed in the lamplight. "They want me back," she said. "For Night 6." "I know." "If they take me, what happens to you?" I didn’t answer. _‘Tell her,’_ Lucas said. _‘Tell her you’d die.’_ Instead I said: "They won’t take you." She looked at me. Really looked. "How do you know?" "Because I’m worse than the curse." The room went quiet. Outside, snow fell. Night 2 was over. And now we had a spy to catch. --- *End of Chapter 10*
