Chapter 17
Surprisingly, nearly everyone was still at the restaurant when Annie finally made it back there. They must have all been on about their fourth cups of coffee by then. Only Sarah and Dave had left, because apparently Sarah had lost her appetite for dessert and gone very quiet and Dave had insisted on taking her home. Annie’s heart sank a little further when they told her. She smiled, nodded and sat down, trying really hard not to think about Sarah, and her ‘own special brand of confidence’. Harry could have used some of that in his life.
‘The river again, Annie? That was a new dress,’ Kelly complained as she wrapped her own jacket around Annie’s shoulders.
