Chapter 9 ‘I’ve been offered a job,’ Lucas announced once his parents finally stopped yabbering on about how short Lily’s skirt was. His sister seemed to love the fact that they had forbidden her to leave the house, taking it as some sort of confirmation that what she had chosen to put on was probably going to have the desired effect. Everyone knew that she would get her way eventually, if not today then next week, or the one after. She wore their parents down with either overconfident persistence or just plain absurdity. It was hard to really discipline her when she so easily refuted each argument with her dead-pan humour. The look she threw him, though, showed Lucas that she didn’t appreciate his timing. It would be much harder for her to talk them around if she had to compete with him
