The big chase.
5:00pm
The four friends dashed towards the police station, then ran as fast as their legs could take them, without actually caring to take a break. Finally, they spotted the station.
When they got there, the whole place was in dilapidation, police work papers flew around, glazes were broken, tables were turned upside down. And there was absolutely no sign of a human presence at the station. That actually gave them a reason to worry about their own safety, because what might have taken everyone may come back to take them.
"What the hell's going on?" David asked rhetorically. He knew no one else had the answers to his questions, but he felt that asking a bunch of questions would make it feel better.
"Let's keep checking. We might find someone," Daniel responded.
"But what's the use? We've checked most areas of this place and still nothing," Daniel stood fixed at one point. He decided he wasn't going to move further, and nothing could move him, because this quest they were taking was a really dangerous one.
"Daniel, not again. You know we could find someone here, the whole world can't just disappear in a-" before Levi could complete what he was about to say, they heard guttural snarls and throaty screams from the intramural part of the station.
They waited a bit, a few meters away from where they heard the noise, so they could find out what was making such growling sounds. Immediately, they turned to making a visual depiction. A ravenous looking cop was captured in their sight. Saliva drooled from the corners of his mouth, his pupils were totally white like his eyes were over permanently. They jumped, and he was making those repulsive growling sounds that could scare even the bravest of men.
"Sir are you okay, What's going on?" Danielle asked, but he seemed to be stone deaf to the questions she asked him. He kept coming closer and closer, while Danielle's instincts warned her to slowly retract her steps, and she obliged.
He leaped fearsomely at her, his mouth opened to reveal his jagged-looking rotten but sharp set of teeth. Just as he was about to land on Danielle, when Levi pulled her safely out of the way. They stood there transfixed at the spot, they were all astonished about what was happening, until the man growled at them again before they came right back to their senses.
"Run! Run!" Daniel yelled, and they all ran out as fast as they could without as much as taking a glance back to see if the man followed them or not.
Not that long after they got out of the station, they heard moans and groans of all sorts echoing out of the station. As they waited, it became louder and closer, so they thought it was best to run away for their lives.
Hurriedly, they dashed to Levi's house, since his was the first to stop in the direction they moved from.
When they got there, they locked all the windows and doors that could pave way for whatever those things were, to get to them.
David shuddered as the light flickered. "Guys, I really do think the end of the world and everything as we know it has come."
"This isn't the end yet," Levi responded sharply, "We've got to do something", he added, rubbing his palms together, then placing them at the top of his head.
"Guys, think we're the only people alive," Danielle began panicking.
Daniel took a few steps forward with the intension of finding something useful. As he did, he came across a door. Curiously, he inquired. "where does that door lead to?"
"The hall," Levi responded to him. It was clear he had no idea what idea had popped into Daniel's mind, as Daniel continued with his search.
Just a few steps inside the entrance of the door, he noticed a television set lay just in front of the sofa which was a few feet away. He escalated his steps to where the television was positioned, tuning it on.
Suddenly, the light flickered again and fear erupted in almost all the four friends, but David, who kept a straight emotionless face, like the whole buzzing sounds made by the television, wasn't scary to him.
After the scene, he turned towards the television, he skimmed through channels as he did. He came across a channel on which the reporter spoke rapidly and unclear about the whole world turning to chaos and how people started attacking each other all of a sudden.
The four of them anxiously kept on watching, if they could at least get some information about what was actually happening.
Well, they didn't get that much information because before she could speak anymore, a man jumped on the reporter, he suddenly took a chunk of flesh from her neck. The camera man dropped his camera and sped off as fast as his legs could carry him.
Well, he actually dropped the camera in a position which could capture the man as he ravenously fed on its victim.
Some minutes after chewing off the head of the reporter,he left her headless body and ran after another lady who was trying to get away from the scene. The video was raised up again, which showed the cameraman had finally mustered courage to return. He took the camera which was a few meters away from him, also a seemingly zombified man. He used the camera against the head of the man, which jolted it into the world of darkness. Then the television went off.
After seeing that brutality, Danielle gasped, using both her hands to cover her mouth.
What's happening to all of us, what are these things, and why do they act like zombies from movies?" She asked.
"It's obvious because that's what they are, Zombies!"David retorted, then he continued, "I think the blast might have caused all this, I don't know if that's true, but that's what it seems right now."
"There must be something we can do to change this situation, we need to scrutinise to get every question which stays in our heads answered," Levi spoke firmly.
"Where do we hide, cause I'm sure if they do come here, this place won't hold," Daniel clarified.
"I have an idea. There is a hideout. I kind of figured out last week, I've been meaning to show you guys, but I never got the chance." Levi heaved with a saddened face as he spoke.
"Where is this place exactly?" Danielle's eyes grew wide open as she heard of a way she could be safe.
"I'll show you guys come," and they all stood up, moving behind him.
So,Levi led them to the place and they slept there for the night.
