The lingering steam from the shower still clung to the air in Ward’s room, a soft mist that mingled with the scent of his soap and the faint musk of our shared night. Sunlight, now a bright, insistent gold, streamed through the window, chasing away the last vestiges of night. Ward, still pulling on a fresh pair of jeans, watched me with a knowing smile as I rummaged through his drawers for something to wear.
“Borrowing my clothes again?” he teased, buttoning his shirt, his eyes sweeping slow over me like he was already imagining what was underneath. “And f**k, you look so good in them. All soft, all mine, no one else gets to see you like this.”
I pulled out an oversized, soft grey t-shirt, grinning as I slipped it over my head. It fell past my thighs, enveloping me in the familiar scent of him. “It’s the best hoodie I own,” I declared, tugging the hem.
He walked over, his hands finding my waist, pulling me close so his mouth brushed my ear, voice low and rough. “You wear it well. But I like it better when it’s the only thing you’re wearing… and when I’m the one taking it off you later.” He kissed me then, slow and tender, before pulling back. “Ready to face the family? President Drake and his crew, I mean.”
I grinned, taking his hand. “As I’ll ever be.”
Descending the stairs, the cacophony of the clubhouse grew louder – the clatter of plates, cheerful chatter, and the irresistible aroma of coffee and bacon. The main hall was alive with activity. Drake, looking every bit the President, stood at the head of the long, polished table, overseeing the breakfast service with a relaxed but authoritative air. Mel, his wife, was beaming as she brought out a fresh pot of coffee, her eyes warm as she glanced at Drake. Nate, Mel’s son and the club’s VP, sat beside her, looking fondly amused as Isabella, looking impossibly energetic, was already engaged in a spirited debate with him over the best way to cook eggs. Across from them, looking every bit the proud father, sat Duncan, his gaze soft as it landed on me and then on Isabella. The air was thick with the smell of bacon and a palpable sense of relief.
As we entered the room, a chorus of greetings erupted.
“Look who decided to join the land of the living!” Isabella called out, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she surveyed my attire. “Casey, I see you’re still wearing Ward’s clothes. Trying to claim him as property already?”
Ward just chuckled, pulling me closer, his hand resting low on my back where only I could feel it. “She looks better in mine. And she knows it. Every inch of her belongs to me anyway—clothes or no clothes.”
Drake, ever the President, slid a plate piled high with food towards me as I sat down, a knowing smirk on his face. “Glad you two could tear yourselves away. We were about to send out a search party.”
“Important matters were discussed,” Ward said smoothly, his gaze flicking to me, dark and warm and so full of everything we’d done. “Very thoroughly discussed. Every single inch.”
Nate, leaning against the doorframe with a mug of coffee, let out a low whistle. “I see. And by the looks of it, the evidence is still intact.”
I shot him a playful glare, but couldn’t hide my grin. Ward’s arm slid around my waist, pulling me onto his lap. I settled against him, my back against his chest, his arms wrapping around me. It felt surprisingly natural, comfortable, the softness of his t-shirt against my skin a constant reminder of the night. His hand rested firm on my thigh, high enough to feel the heat of me, low enough that no one would notice the way his thumb brushed dangerously close to the edge of the shirt.
“Hey!” Isabella exclaimed, pointing a fork at me. “That’s unfair! I had to sit next to Nate all night, and he barely let me breathe.”
Nate chuckled, ruffling her hair. “Someone had to make sure you didn’t try to sneak off with the entire pancake stack.”
Ward’s hand rested on my thigh, his thumb stroking slow, steady circles right where I was most sensitive. He leaned down, his lips brushing my ear, voice so low only I could hear. “You comfortable? Good. Because I’m gonna keep touching you like this all morning. Remind you exactly what we did last night. Remind you how good you feel wrapped around me.”
I nodded, leaning my head back against his shoulder, my breath catching. “Very.”
“Well, don’t get too comfortable,” Drake chimed in, a wide grin spreading across his face. “We need to make sure you two are properly initiated into this whole… cohabitation thing. Casey, feed Ward some of that bacon. Let’s see if he can handle it.”
A wave of good-natured laughter swept through the room. I picked up a strip of perfectly crisp bacon from my plate, feeling a blush heat my cheeks, and held it out to Ward. He took it with a playful glint in his eyes, biting into it with an exaggerated groan, his eyes never leaving mine. “Oh, the agony!” he declared, low enough only I caught the double edge. “Such torture. Having something sweet and warm in my mouth… but it’s nothing compared to what I had last night. I’d much rather have you.” He looked directly at me. “But I think I can endure it, if you’re willing to administer it. Nice and slow for me, sunshine.”
“Someone’s getting brave,” Isabella muttered, though she was grinning.
“Feed him some eggs, Casey,” Duncan instructed, a twinkle in his eye, his voice warm and paternal. “Let’s see if he can swallow without making a mess. We’re assessing his capabilities here, you know, for future reference.”
I carefully scooped some eggs onto my fork and offered them to Ward. He opened his mouth, taking the bite with surprising delicacy, his teeth grazing the tines just a little too deliberately, his gaze burning into me. “Remarkable control,” he announced to the room, then leaned in, his breath hot against my jaw. “But you know I lose all control when your mouth is on me. When you’re taking me deep, looking up at me like that… that’s when I really lose it.” He leaned back, looking at me with an almost-too-innocent expression. “Truly.”
The teasing continued, light and affectionate. Every time I shifted on Ward’s lap, his hand would squeeze my thigh, drifting higher, his whisper hot against my skin: “That’s it… move just like that. You have no idea how hard you make me when you squirm on my lap. Everyone can see you’re mine. Everyone knows exactly what we do when the doors are closed.” Every time Ward’s hand lingered a little too long, a new round of jokes would start. They teased me about being domesticated, about stealing Ward’s clothes, about how I’d finally found someone to keep me in line. Drake and Nate, in particular, seemed to relish the opportunity to tease Ward about his new domesticity.
It was all in good fun, a way for them to acknowledge our new status, to welcome me fully into the fold not just as Casey, but as Casey, Ward’s woman. There was no malice, no real judgment, just the boisterous, teasing affection of a family that had seen me through more than most people see in a lifetime. And underneath it all, Ward’s hand on my leg, his quiet promises, the heat between us that no one else could fully see—“Later. I’m gonna take this shirt off you. Gonna make you remember every second of last night all over again.”
Isabella, of course, was the ringleader. “Seriously though,” she said, leaning forward, her eyes sparkling. “Ward, you’re going to have to teach Casey how to cook something that doesn’t involve a microwave. We can’t have the club members starving because their leader’s woman can only boil water.”
Ward squeezed my thigh hard, his voice dropping low and rough. “She’s got other talents. More important ones. Way more important than cooking. The kind that keep me up all night. The kind that make me beg for more.” His gaze drifted down, a silent promise that made my breath catch. “And she’s perfect at them.”
I swatted his arm playfully. “Hey! I can cook.”
“She makes a killer grilled cheese,” Drake offered helpfully, earning him a sharp nudge from Mel.
“We’ll work on it,” Ward said, his voice a low rumble against my back. “But for now, I’m happy with her other skills. Incredibly happy. Could spend every day just tasting her, touching her, making her mine over and over again. That’s all I need.”
Duncan’s gaze lingered on me for a moment, a soft, proud smile touching his lips. He’d seen us through so much, and now, seeing us finally finding this peace, this belonging, it was clear he was content.
The teasing eventually subsided, fading back into the general hum of conversation and laughter. We finished breakfast, the easy banter a constant thread woven through the morning. I stayed on Ward’s lap for most of it, reveling in the simple comfort, the feeling of being completely accepted, completely safe. Every so often he’d lean in, quiet and sure: “You have no idea how happy I am right now. Having you here, wearing my clothes, everyone knowing you’re mine. Later… I’m gonna show you exactly how much. No rush. All day. All night. Just us.” The world outside the clubhouse gates felt peaceful and clear, and within these walls, surrounded by family and the Kings, it felt like home.
