Amara {POV}
It’s a new day and with another good morning message from Dyson. “He’s a consistent one if not anything else,” I say out loud to myself. I wanted to text him back but I thought back to that night at the restaurant and I couldn’t bring myself to go through with it. I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up, though. I still randomly think about his kisses. Those red jolly rancher lips. Plus we’re such a vibe together. Am I going to let some demons come between that? Us?” No I won’t let this small inconvenience get in the way of my happiness. I deserve the type of love that I know Dyson can offer.
After going back and forth with the thought. I finally convinced myself to pick up the phone and call him. “Hey gorgeous. I’m so happy to hear your voice. Are you okay? How’ve you been?” He asks genuinely concerned. “I’m fine. I’ve just been shaken up since that night and I didn’t know if I could continue to date you with your, I pause, lifestyle.” “I get that babe. This lifestyle isn’t my first choice but I was born into it so I have to learn to live with it but you don’t.” He says. “Yeah I know.”I say. “This sounds like a conversation we should have in person do you mind if I come over?, Dyson asks. “I’d like that,” I say. In 20 minutes Dyson was at my door. When we saw each other we instinctly hugged. It’s like our body’s were drawn to each other. We have so much chemistry it’s crazy. “Would you like anything to drink,” I ask while guiding him over to the couch. “Uh yeah I’ll take a water if you have it,” he answers. “I do have,” I say and quickly walked to the kitchen to grab waters for the both of us. We both drank a bit of our waters and just stared at each other a while. Dyson broke our stare. He placed his water down on the table, and grabbed my hand. “Look Amara, I know my lifestyle is a lot. I get that and I get why you’ve been so distant. I just want to let you know that if you choose to be with me. I will protect you from humans, demons, witches, warlocks, and whatever else there is out there. No one will ever touch you.” He lets go of my hand, “I want to show you something. I want to show you how I can protect you. I don’t want want you to ever be afraid while with me. I can protect you with more than just potions”, he says. He lifts his right hand up, looks at a while and then a fire ignited from his fingertips spreading to the whole hand. “Okay, so how long have you been able to do that, I ask shocked. “That’s pretty cool so will you no longer need to use the potions? Will your fire be enough to kill a demon if one was to attack? I started rambling off questions. “That’s the plan but I literally just tapped into my power a few days ago and it’ll take some time for me to master it,” he says. “Well you were able to conjure the fire just now so sounds like your getting better at it, I say with confidence. “I am getting better and I’m practicing with my dad everyday until I have complete control over them. He wants me to skip a semester too so I can train full time. “Are you?,” I asked. “I told him I’d think about it but I don’t think I could treat my powers like a burden which is what they’d feel like if I have to start missing out on things I’d normally otherwise wouldn’t,” he says. “I get that and it sounds like you’ve made your mind up so you should tell your dad how you just explained it me and I’m sure he will understand.” I say while grabbing his hand. “You’ve said your piece now is like to say mine. I want you to know that the last month had nothing to do with you. I think that you having powers are cool and I don’t feel like I’m in danger when I’m with you or anything. I know you would never hurt me. I was just scared because I’m so used to protecting myself and how can I defend myself against a demon. Drunk men after the club, no problem but I don’t think a taser would do much damage against a demon. Dyson was listening intently with a slowly appearing disappointed look on his face. “But I’ve given it some thought,” I continue. “I want to be with you. I do. Im not scared of a fight. I just need the right tools to protect myself. I can’t solely depend on you and you only for protection. I’d like some potions for my own protection. A huge smile crepted on his face and he embraced me with a kiss. “Of course you can have as many potions as it takes to make you feel protected,” he says relieved. “And If it makes you feel any better I haven’t had a demon encounter since that night.” “Why not. Why are demons not coming after you anyway? I asked trying to get a full understanding of the situation. “Demons only attack upper level witches and warlocks. They are after our powers,” he starts off saying. “ but you just got your power, “I interrupted. “Why would the demon attack you without anything to gain.” “Actually, according to my mom. My powers were coming in then. They may have fully been there too. I just didn’t know it and if you think about it. That would be the perfect time to attack a witch or warlock. Right when they’re coming into their power.” “So why do you think they’ve stopped coming. I don’t know. Maybe they didn’t expect me to be prepared to defend myself. “Or maybe they’re concocting a plan to try to take you out, I point out. “It’s possible. I’ve had that same thought. I’ll be prepared and you will too if something goes down. Luckily for us, I have protective parents and we’ll be ready. “They sound like bad asses, I says. “I guess I never thought about because they’re my parents but yeah they are. “And your mom is so smart for making you carry potions around even before she knew you were coming into your powers. She basically saved your life, I say. “I guess she did and she taught me basically everything I know.” “I hope not everything I say kissing him after each word. “Oh definitely not everything,” Dyson says.
