"Mr. Emilio, umm, I'm just a little preoccupied. What's the passcode of the card again?" My voice was trembling and rasping when I asked.
Who doesn't have the guts to ask when it's about ten million dollars, right? My other self was even pleased when I got my one thousand dollars a month salary.
Mr. Emilio then took his phone and typed in something. A few seconds later, the phone he gave me suddenly rang. I looked and opened it.
"That's the passcode of the card, Mr. Kenneth. Utilize the card for the meantime before we can solve the issues about your father's assets."
My hands felt trembling when he handed me the card. There were a variety of thoughts drawn out from my little mind. With ten million dollars in my hand, I could buy everything I want. I can also go back to study if I want to even from any outstanding schools in the world.
"Mr. Gerard and Ms. Karen, your car, are now ready." One of the bodyguards politely said.
Thereafter, I waved my hands to them before we headed out to the cars. Karen also gave me her number before she left.
When I got out of the house, I couldn’t help myself but giggle as everything that happened has changed me instantly.
The driver unlocked the door for me and I eagerly hopped in. I leaned my head at the window and wonder.
On behalf of the millions on the card with me, I supposed to be merry but my face showed in contrast. I know everything is just a borrowed time. Sooner or later, they will eventually come to realize I am only a fraud.
I breathed out heavily. To live a simple uncomplicated life is all I wanted. A thousand dollars a month is enough for me to survive and knowing how affluent people do dirty works. They are willing to kill people for money and I am not planning to come to that point in my life.
The driver took a glimpse at me in the front mirror. "Mr. Gerard, are you alright? You looked a bit off." He worriedly asked.
It took me five seconds to realize he was asking me a question. "What, me? Yeah, I'm totally fine. Thank you."
"Just don't stress out yourself about everything too much, Mr. Gerard. You're the sole heir of your father's multi-billion-dollar business. You should be rejoicing by now."
"Yeah, you're right." I briefly replied.
When we arrived at City Hall, I ordered my private security guards to remain outside and wait for me to come back.
After I hopped out of the car, I suddenly felt a little nervous about Mr. Leo Lastimosa, my head manager. Since I started working with him, all my hairs from head to toe would probably rise. He was the worst person I ever met in the entire City Hall.
When I entered the office, Mr. Leo was sitting at his table focusing his eyes on the screen of his computer.
I clear my throat before saying a word. "Good afternoon, Mr. Leo, I apologize for not answering your calls. There are just unexpected things that happened to me lately." I apologetically bowed my head.
"Place those packages on my table, Ken." Mr. Leo replied with a disdainful hoarse voice.
I slowly raise my head and looked at him. "Mr. Leo, I can still deliver the packages today. Let me do overtime so I can fasten it up before the night ends."
"Didn't you hear what I told you, Ken? Or should I repeat it loud and clear?"
Mr. Leo was completely furious now when his face and tone of expression immediately changed.
Left no choice but to remove the straps out of my shoulder and slowly put the bag and take off the packages. My heart is battering heavily and my body starts to produce sweat profusely.
"Mr. Leo…" I was supposed to reason out but was cut off as he immediately slumps his hands on the table.
"No further words from you, Ken. Don't you know several furious customers called me lately? They were disappointed with our customer service."
"Mr. Leo, I am truly sorry for what happened. I'll assure you, it will never happen again and I will do my job better." I stammered.
"It will indeed not happening again. You're right by that. Here is what will happen, Ken. I already calculated your last pay.
Unfortunately, you still owe a few thousand dollars from the office. Not to mention, your remaining one thousand dollars I.O.U from me buying your useless bike and for the rest of the hard-working employees you owed."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Leo. Please, give me another chance. I can pay you, I promise. Just give me enough time to collect dough to pay you."
"Enough of your useless sorry, okay? You’re so annoying. I’m sorry to say but you're fired. You are not even qualified for the position. Now, if you will not look for ways to pay us back, by all means, I will let the City Hall sue you."
I crawled towards Mr. Leo's feet begging. I didn't mind at all degrading myself just to have my job back. Disappointedly, he was already firm with his determination to fire me.
He grabbed the collar and forcibly dragged me out of his office. Several employees who saw the episode did nothing but stare as though they were also frightened of him.
Unfortunately, my driver who was buying street-foods saw me immediately sprint towards us.
"What's the meaning of this?" He worriedly asked and helped me up.
"Yes, that's right! Help me drag him to the police station. This person has an infamous shameless face owing us thousands of dollars."
Mr. Leo gripped my shirt but unfortunately, he got kicked by one of my men and he swiftly stumbled to the floor.
"What the hell? Don't you know who I am, huh? I am one of the managers of the Eastern Valley's City Hall." He furiously and boastfully said.
"I don't care who the hell you are, even if you were the Mayor of this City. You should be the one who needs to worry barking the wrong person."
"Are you alright, Mr. Gerard?" One of my men approached and worriedly asked.
"Yeah, I think so. Umm, do you have some cash with you? I will pay you later once I could withdraw."
He took the dough out of his pocket and passed it to me. "That's a hundred thousand dollars, Mr. Gerard."
"Here, take my full payment. That's a hundred thousand dollars. It was a hundred times I owed you and for this building. Precisely, you can have the change since you need it more."
Mr. Leo’s eyes widened after I threw a bundle of hundred thousand dollars in cash in front of him.
He eagerly gets the money and deposits it in his pocket. I leaned closer to his ear. "If you still love yourself, get out of this building and never come back. This City Hall doesn't deserve to have arrogant and boastful people like you."
"Mr. Gerard? Wow, is that you? Oh, my God. The wealthiest person in Eastern Valley was here at the building!" A girl shouted.
Several people heard it. They were fascinated and immediately gathered around to have a better look. Some took off their phones and took pictures and videos of me.
They were all astounded at me for being such a modest and low-key personality after seeing me with sleeveless shirts on behalf of my wealth and power.
"Yes, that was him! Look at his picture from the news this morning. Even his clothes were all matched." One of the City Hall's employees showed a photo behind him.
Intrigued, Mr. Leo, he took off his co employees' phone. His eyes widened when he confirmed they were telling the truth.
I started to step my foot back to the car to avoid further trouble.
"Mr. Gerard, please wait! Hold on a sec, please." Mr. Leo swiftly ran towards me heading to the car.
"What do you want, now, Mr. Leo? Are the hundred thousand dollars not enough for your eyes?" I ironically replied.
He crawled towards my feet and begged. What I did lately also happened to him. His legs looked like jelly as his knees were knocking together.
I declined when he handed back to me the hundred thousand dollars.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Gerard. I truly regretted everything. Please tell me what to do to make it up to you to spare my life."
I can see Mr. Leo felt completely terrified. Terror washed over his face, raising the fine hair on the back of his neck.
"Mr. Gerard, I'm afraid we better get going. I just got a call from Mr. Emilio about what was happening. You're on all social media stations now." One of my men approaches me well.
Mr. Leo didn't take off his hands from my feet when I stepped towards the car. He began crying and was paralyzed to the spot, the frightening aura holding him in a tightening grip.
"Take your hands out of me, Mr. Leo! As firm as your judgment later, so did mine. And you can do nothing to change my mind."
