THE SPACE SHUTTLE
Woodstock returned to school that next week and tried to put Lucy’s letter to the back of his mind where he hid things. Walking the hall slowly towards his dreaded history class, he started thinking: “Today’s history class may not be so bad. Every time the space shuttle blasts off from Houston, they watch it on television in Mrs Swanson’s history class. This is the shuttle’s 10th mission but more significant than the others because Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher ever to have visited space, is on board. Mrs Swanson told us about growing up with Christa McAuliffe and how they are best friends to this day and talk regularly.”
Mrs Swanson and the class sat in excitement as the countdown fell to 10 seconds. The students spoke each number in the countdown in unison
