17 CARMEN I can’t say why I contacted these kids about singing in their band. I’ve been working at the school for a few years and have seen these boys wandering the halls. Singing is something I enjoy. My folks entered me in vocal contests all over the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, when I was a kid. Many times I placed first. At 18, I sang in an all-girl band called Rock On. As usual, the band didn’t last. Garage bands die out quick. Just as Brian Adams sings: “I shoulda known we’d never get far.” Anyway, I am glad Woodstock and his friends gave me a chance. I have neglected my talent over the last few years.
