I can’t believe those stupid kids of mine. Neither has the slightest f*****g clue what they’ve started. These high-school flings never last. When it ends, I hope they remain family. Darla is smart and can do anything she wants with her life but won’t. Woodstock is an excellent guitarist and has dreams and ambitions of being a writer or musician. Being with Darla will hold him back from leaving town. That’s something I’d hate to see. Darla is like me, Woodstock like his mother.
Jenny never had the chance to leave this town. God took her away, but Woodstock has a chance. From the depths of my soul, I pray that boy wises up. Many nights, lying in bed, I’ve wondered what it would have been like if I had left this town years ago, taken Jenny from here before that drunk driver.
