Noelle tumbled to the ground in fright.
As Seren burst out laughing, Noelle scrambled up and vaulted onto a nearby black horse, charging straight at her!
But the next second, the horse threw her off.
The well-trained horse wouldn't trample her, but the fall still scraped her up pretty badly.
Pain shot through her. She looked up, stunned, to see Oscar hurrying over.
"Noelle, do you have any idea what you're doing?" He tucked his whip away. "If I hadn't stopped it, you would've hurt her!"
"She came at me first!" Noelle screamed, her eyes red.
Oscar glanced around. "Is that really what happened?"
"What's the point of asking? Your wife's been trying to kill me for days now. Since you don't believe me either..." Seren spread her arms, pretending to fall from her horse. "I might as well die!"
Oscar rushed over and caught her. "Don't you dare, Seren! You're mine. And your life belongs to me, too."
He held Seren tight, like she was something precious. Noelle watched, her eyes stinging even more.
"You're both at fault here," Oscar said quickly. "To be fair, you both get punished."
He made up his mind fast. "I'll personally take Seren back to her room and 'deal with her' properly. As for you... Can't go too hard on you. Let's just have you dragged around the track once."
The whole place went dead silent. All you could hear was people gasping.
Employees whispered to each other.
"Dragged around once? This place is ten football fields put together! Might as well just kill her!"
"Exactly. What's fair about that? Mr. Pearson clearly plays favorites. Look how careful he's being with Ms. Knox!"
"Poor Mrs. Pearson. Gave up her career for him, and this is how he treats her."
The cuts on her body burned like fire, but her heart ached even more.
"Noelle, my heart belongs only to you. I'll never let you down." The man who once promised to love only her now treated her crueler than anyone.
Suddenly, thunder rumbled, and rain poured down.
Noelle's face showed nothing as the staff tied her hands to the horse.
A c***k of the whip, and the horse bolted, dragging her behind.
The rough ground tore open her already scraped legs, gravel digging deep into her flesh.
Her thin clothes ripped apart. Rain mixed with blood streamed everywhere, each wound getting lashed over and over by the rain.
Half-conscious, she thought she saw Oscar standing with Seren at a window in a lit-up house nearby.
Seren murmured, looking up at him with playful accusation, "You're so bad... bringing me here to watch this."
Noelle smiled bitterly.
So this was Seren's "punishment"—watching her suffer.
Noelle bit her lip hard. Rain and hot tears mixed together.
Eight years of real love, and this was what she got.
In twelve days, she could leave.
When that day came, she'd be done with both of them.
