Maxine didn't take his eyes off me while my mind was in a complete turmoil. I asked Elspeth a few more questions but she had no more information for me.
“Thanks for your help, ma'am,” I said as I rose to my feet. I was already exhausted, going from one city to another. And the discovery of my past was exhausting enough.
Maxine rose to his feet too and held my hand in his gently. He has been doing that a lot these days. I believe it was his own way of letting me know he will always be by my side.
“You're okay?” he asked as he glanced at me.
“Not really. But I can handle it,” I responded quietly.
Elspeth took a long look at me. “I wish you a good future, child. Don't worry, you have a special destiny and no one can stop it.”
