CHAPTER 10: MAKING MY POINT MAXINE: She recoiled instantly, clutching her blouse. “What?” “You heard me.” “Sir please, I said I'm sorry. I truly regret what I did.” she trembled as she spoke. “I believe you. And that's why I didn’t kill you,” I corrected, stepping toward her. “But you need to get used to my touch.” I saw her tremble again. She wasn’t ready. Not yet. With a sigh, I closed the distance and brought my hand to her face once more. Her skin was warm, trembling beneath my touch. Her scent hit me then—something soft and intoxicating. It pulled at a primal part of me I’d buried long ago. I leaned in slowly, letting my nose graze the crook of her neck. She stiffened, gasping. “You smell like trouble,” I whispered, voice low. She said nothing, but her breathing picked up.
