CHAPTER 50: TRYING TO SAVE THE ALPHA
VENUS:
We headed straight to Maxine's chambers as soon as we got back to the pack. He was still lying on the mat, his breath shallow, and his skin pale as ash. If you don't look closely enough to see his heartbeat, you might think he was already dead.
My heart beat faster in my chest because of exhaustion, and my entire body ached from the long journey. But none of that mattered. Not when Maxine’s life still hung by a thread.
The moment we stepped into Maxine’s room, the seer was already waiting for us at the door like she had foreseen our exact arrival down to the minute. Her eyes were fixed on me, and she nodded when she saw the plant in my hand.
“Bring it inside,” she ordered. “Lay it on the floor. The ground must feel it.”
