As we drove toward the pack, Maxine suddenly looked pale. I watched his colour get worse by the minute and eventually he lost consciousness.
I almost screamed in fear but Conrad told me to calm down. I held my chest, trying to calm my nerves but my heartbeat kept accelerating.
Wait, what's even wrong with me?
I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I was never one to worry over people who didn’t give a damn about me, but here I was, sitting stiffly in the back seat of the car, staring at Maxine’s unconscious form sprawled across Conrad's lap.
My hands trembled. My knees were weak. My chest throbbed with something I didn’t want to name. This shouldn’t have been happening. Not to me. Not for him.
