Chapter 4

1115 Words
Roman Father was making me marry the beta's daughter Heidi and because I couldn't wait to be alpha in order to get rid of his hold I agreed to it. Knowing my mate is out there somewhere hoping I'd find her. Man, I feel like a wreck. "I've never seen a man frown so much on his engagement." I turned to the side to see my younger sister Raquel smiling at me with bubbly eyes which she got from our mom. Raquel was a copy and paste of mom while I on the other hand.. "You know why I'm this way." "Even though I don't like her father I have to admit Heidi's not bad, she's pretty, strong, smart and nice. A ten over ten.." "Come on Rome." She nudged me with her elbow, "you'd be lucky to have her as your luna. Judging from her exaggerated tone I could tell she was trying to cheer me up Heidi was nothing like she explained, quite the opposite actually. "She's not my mate." I said in a bitter tone. A silent wave of silence washed us after that. Seconds later she walked off but not without giving me a warm pat on my shoulder. I sighed, as if I wasn't going through enough already my wolf Cyrus was giving me the silent treatment. The last thing he said to me was, "coward." Before switching himself completely off. Right now I couldn't even feel him there, I felt so empty inside. The blaring music from outside further intensified my rage everyone was partying happily while I was here alone miserable. "10..9..8" the shouting came from the same direction as the music and I knew what that meant, countdown down to new year. "7..6..5" too bad there was nothing I looked forward to. With each passing second their cheers got louder. "4.. 3" they yelled with so much vigor while I took a slur from the jar in my hand. "2" "1" "HAPPY NEW YEAR" Yeah happy new- My brain came to a freeze, it was only momentarily but the shock was enough to make me jump up my feet. I could feel Cyrus once more but there was no time to converse. Like a dog I sniffed, down the hallways to wherever it was taking me. I walked by a crowd of people but nope, not there I kept walking. It seemed to be coming from outside the gates so I increased my pace. I could sense other wolves including her, the rate of her heartbeat was abnormal. It appeared to be, fear. After a few walks I was met with the reason. A good number of wolves spread out in a circle with father in the middle, he wore a white robe indicating he had just shifted. Alongside him was a girl she was laid on the ground unclad. Mate! Cyrus tickled with excitement but it didn't last long as it was soon replaced with rage, I could sniff the multiple injuries on her body, how scared she was to die then father c****d his gun and aimed at her, like a scene from a horror movie. I was about watch my mate die. Without thinking I yelled out the words 'wait' he came to a pause, turned and his eyes fell on me. "Roman." He called, I could feel the displeasure. "Father." I was just as displeased. "Why are you here? Don't you have an engagement party to prepare for." "I will no longer be getting engaged." I announced. Why would I marry another when I've found my true destined lover. He scoffed, "that's not up to you to decide, now run along little boy I've got important matters to tend to." Judging by the expression on his face he did not appear to take me seriously and he was not to blame, all my life I've lived dancing to his tune but not this time. Instead of cowering away in fear like he thought I would I strolled where my mate was lying helplessly. Took off my jacket and crouched on one knee I placed the fabric over her exposed skin shielding her from the lustious gaze of the many wolves around. I wanted nothing more than to gouge their eyes out Cyrus could agree to this to. While I was thinking about the many ways I could make all the people who participated in my mate hunt pay something flashed in my eyes then I realized it was my mate's blue eyes glistening like the moon they peered deep into my soul like they were searching for answers and I found myself unable to break free from this magnetic hold, oh how beautiful she was. Trust me I could stay and look into her eyes all day but father was waiting and I knew better than anyone that he was no patient man. In an instant I tore away from her gaze rising up on my feet. "What do you think you're doing?" "You cannot kill this one." I said with authority hoping he'd get the message. I had been witness to his gruesome killings many times and even though it didn't sit right I never opposed to it. "And who do you think you are to dictate to me who I can and can't kill? Who's the alpha here huh?" Let me out! Pleaded Cyrus but I knew exactly what he would do if I gave him the main stage. Although enraged staying calm was a priority, I mean my mate's life was still on the line. "I said you cannot kill this one, she's my mate." There was a brief moment of silence and next thing I know he was laughing like a mad man. "Mate you say?" He said in between laughter, "that's the very more reason for her to die remember your real mate is still waiting." I've had enough of his foolery, Let me out! "Father!" "Roman!" "For the last time step aside." Since he was so determined to kill my mate then, "you'd have to shoot me first." Several minutes went by and we both remained still in our position no one willing to back down, it must hurt his pride as alpha to give into his son especially with people watching but I had more than just pride to lose. After much contemplation he finally caved in but not in the way I expected. "She's going to die anyways, unless I give her the antidote." He said retracting his gun, "how about we make a deal? You go in there and get engaged like a good boy and your mate will live to see tomorrow's sun."
