REAGAN COULD SMELL sizzling bacon, strong coffee, and fresh bread. Even as he stretched in his bed, blinking his eyes awake, his stomach growled for the food that had woken him. He rolled onto his side and pushed himself up, the ache in his ribs much less painful than yesterday. Which was incredible, and the doctor inside him also said, truly unbelievable. Most people couldn’t move for weeks after such an injury. He reached for the painkillers he hadn’t taken since last night and stopped himself. Maybe he should test how he felt first.
