Chapter7: The awkwardness
Kay’s Pov
I was still staring at the playroom door when I felt someone next to me. I looked up and found Alex. He didn’t say anything for which I was thankful.
“Kind of a weird dude, isn’t he?” I smiled lightly.
“You have no idea. Least no one was in there this time.”
I arched my eyebrow at him to go on, but he didn’t say anything else. I huffed loudly but didn’t push any further he obviously didn’t want to talk about it.
For someone who didn’t need to grab anything he sure as hell was taking along time. Any man that tells you women take forever they really need to do a double take. Five minutes went by in silence it was comfortable with no need to speak. I was fine with this I wasn’t ready to be one hundred percent nice to Alex yet. Hell, until maybe an hour ago or two (I’m not sure when he showed up now) I didn’t even want to call him by his name. Having two mates though…
“Ah, are you two ready or are you going to keep standing there?” Eric came in the room amused. I’m convince now that I have seen him like this for a bit this is his natural dimer.
“Waiting on you princess finally get everything you need to go?” I asked
“Of course, I wanted to give you time to catch up. Did you?” He asked with a smile. Jackass he knew.
“Oh yea of course so much, that I just want his c**k in me right freaking now.” I sounded snarky. Hell, what do I care if we get the hell out of here and fast? Looking at Alex though I kind wish I could control my sarcasm sometimes. His eyes were black.
I coughed in embarrassment. “What lucky door is the cars behind, unless you have a magic portal we can use.”
“The one to your right thru the playroom actually its behind the wall of pain. Or we can use the magic portal. I leave the choice up to you.” He was serious. Huh. Ok then.
“How far can it take us?”
“How far do you need to go?”
“To the ninth realm.” I kept my voice even. I really hope that Alex was right. That our son was with the cousin whoever on the council. If not, this could be a one-way ticket for him. Mate or not I meant it my earlier promise.
“Been a long time since I was there. Last I heard it was destroyed by an angry banshee. Let’s do it this should be fun. We will need to hold hands and you know don’t let go. You don’t want to be lost in time and space.” He sounded giddy like a child with a new toy.
Ugh men.
I held out both of my hands expecting. I guess I should have asked if they would like to hold each others hands...but I didn't want to cause any issues. Don’t want to disturb the macho man. Macho, macho man, I want to be a macho man. Luna started singing in my head causing me to laugh like a hyena. They both looked at me strangely I didn’t stop laughing until we finished porting. Funny I remember the rides being a lot bumpier and nauseating.
When we finally arrived at the ninth realm it was beautiful. I stopped breathing and held my breathe. Green and lush. Trees that you couldn’t see the top, flowers that were bright in bloom illuminating the land. Green grass that had been tended to, a clear purple sky radiating warmth. You could hear the land and animals they were in harmony.
It had changed.
Long gone were the dead plants and shrub. The blackened sky that could cried tears of acid. One drop and you would be in tremendous pain for days.
It was peaceful.
Sometimes I had let go or they did. I let my feet guide me to where I know the cold wooden building used to be. Please let it be here.
Well there was no wooden building, in its stead there was a stone castle. It reminded of the old castles you read in stores. Big blocks stacks and held with god knows what. Little ones felling the stone that had gaps. It was huge. The stones were from the land. Well the original land black as night and smooth as sin. I don’t know how long I starred. I didn’t even notice the figure in front of me.
“Answer!” someone yelled in my face.
I took my eyes off the castle to see who was being well a jackass. I tilted my head trying to see if I could remember him. He was a short man in his sixty’s or seventy’s. He had a walking stick that was obviously a staff. His frame was built like someone who just got out of the gym. He had big muscles that stretched to the fabric of his shirt. His Jeans were slightly loose, and he wore no shoes. Interesting. I looked at his face and he had violet eyes, pale skin, slight wrinkles around his eyes and mouth. His nose was mid-sized.
“Who runs this place? “I asked ignoring the question. Although, if we are fair, I have no idea what the question was.
“That’s not for an outsider to know. Now state your business.” His eyes started glowing. A small giggle escaped.
“What’s so funny?” He asked in a serious tone.
I shrugged and let myself glow. I felt the tingle up my body and into my scalp. I didn’t need a mirror to know I was glowing. I smiled at the man as his face faltered.
“You can come in. The mutt and the demon stay. Can’t afford another attack.” He walked swiftly to a door I didn’t see earlier. I went to follow.
Two arms held me back.
I looked at them both in annoyance. “You heard the man demon and mutt stay.” I laughed as I got out of there grip and jogged to the door.
I walked into the castle and followed the man up the stairs. “What’s your name?” I asked.
“Gilfred, I am the guardian of this place.” He replied gruffly.
“Gilfred who healed this place? The last I saw it was full of darkness.”
He puffed out his chest in pride. “I did after the attack. There was so few left it was easy to get the council to agree to change. They get to stay alive and I keep this place pure.”
“Its beautiful you do an amazing job.” I said with adoration in my voice.
“It wasn’t easy with the damn darkness everywhere. Eating everything good and destroying what has a right to be here. It keeps me busy though.”
We arrived at a landing and he led me into a great hall. There was circle of wooden chairs around a giant table. The table had my family emblem in the center causing me to faulter. It was dragon holding a torch that was on fire. It was supposed to symbolize the gift to humans brought by the nether beings. The first actual change for human history.
“Why is the Rose family emblem in the middle? They were not in charge of the council.” I asked with confusion on my face.
“They are all that is left of the council. Well beside one or two stragglers. They survived the attack and wanted to rebuild and keep doing what we do best. Manage time.”
“Where is everyone then?” I asked.
He laughed causing me to cover my ears. “You didn’t think they sat at the table the whole time, now did you?”
Pft. They used to… sit in those chairs judge the universe and say how it should be. Everything was absolute.
“Make yourself at home. Someone will be down shortly.” With that he disappeared. For an old man he could travel fast.
I walked around the great hall. There were no paintings, tapestry, or well anything. The whole damn thing was bare minus the table and a hearth.
“What do you want Miss Ross?” I heard an icy voice behind me. I ignored it and kept walking along the room. I let my fingers feel the smoothness of the walls.
“How were you saved Ruby? How many are there?” I asked nonchalantly.
“How dare you ask such a question! The woman who murdered without cause! The one who destroyed everything dear!” Ruby hissed.
I turned to her. She had a scar running from her temple to her chine. Her eyes red and calculating, her cheeks were slightly plump her lips pursed into a frown. Hair still ebony black and sparkled as she moved. She was a tall woman well over six feet with a slim frame well almost slim she had a large rack.
“That gives me the right Ruby. Did you forget I was your punishment? That I can do so again and there is nothing you can do to stop it. “I said sweetly. She flinched like I slapped her causing me to smile.
“Get out you b***h and never come back.” She turned to walk away from me. I grabbed her arm in an instant.
She was over a foot faller than me by a long shot but what the hell death wishes and all.
“Answer the question Ruby or I’ll bring your world to the ground.” All emotion was gone from my voice letting my own darkness come out.
“Rose that is so rude you were raised you better you silly child. Let Ruby go this instant.” That voice. Not possible I killed her. Ripped her to shreds. Mother.
“Hello mother. Healed nicely I see.” I looked at her over my shoulder not letting Ruby go. She was like a statue anyway not moving. I snickered. Good doggy.
Mother sighed. “I’ll tell you everything let Ruby go you scarred her enough.”
I raised my eyebrow at her. “I came with two men. Let them inside.”
She scoffed. “Do you really think you can tell me what to do child?”
“Do you really want to test me mother. I am uninjured and at full strength. Let them in and I will let dear Ruby go. Simple really.” I let my hand shift halfway elongating my claws. I touched a finger to Ruby’s face. “Or we can add a new scar. I’m not in the mood for games mother. “
Ruby’s eyes held fear. She looked at me and back to my mother pleading her to do what I asked with her eyes. You see the last time I slashed her it scarred not because she couldn’t heal, she healed fast like me. No, she scarred because my claws were like venom to her. Her body just kept healing instead of getting the venom out.
“Fine. Gilfred let them in and tell them to hurry the hell up.” Mother replied.
I waited.
They were ushered in Gilfred mumbling on the way. It made me smile he really was a cute old man.
Eric looked bored standing still in his suit he let his eyes scan the room before falling on me and Ruby.
Alex however had a look of shock on his face.
“I buried you. You died.” His voice shook in anger.
Mothers eyes were on me though. “Let her go now.”
I shrugged releasing Ruby. She backed away slowly not taking her eyes off me. I rolled my eyes if I wanted her dead her heart would be in my hands. Well her hearts.
“Now mother first things first you survived how don’t let the pup lose his temper.” I teased. She hated to be told what to do. Manners were everything and being told was not on her list of correct mannerisms.
“Child, I raised you better. First we will have tea.” She scoffed and turned expecting us to follow. I did without hesitation. I needed answers if she was alive, they could all be alive. Maybe Luna wasn’t nut’s all these years.
She led us to a sitting room. The hearth was lit giving a comfy warmth. There was a giant brown couch and Two sitting chairs that were peach. Odd choice but it certainly fit her. She looked at home. There was tea on the table with cups and cookies. The walls were also bare in here.
I sat in the middle of the couch so that they could each sit on either side of me. No need to make the guys uncomfortable sitting next to each other.
Eric sat on my left closest to the fire and Alex slowly sat down on my right his eyes never leaving my mother.
Mother poured tea out from one of the peach chairs to the cups. She handed them over and I took it. I did miss her tea. She maybe an evil b***h of a woman but her tea always had a soothing approach to it.
“Now child being alive disappoints you I know I can see it in your face. Its your fault however that I am alive. When you attacked me covered in blood some of your blood mixed with my own. Not enough for me to get all the goodies of your blood but enough to heal me from the venom of your claws.” She turned her attention from me to Alex. “Do you know what its like to dig yourself out of a grave Mutt.” Her face was seething.
Alex said nothing. I could just picture it. Mrs. Perfects covered in tattered clothing, trying to move the earth aside and dig we way out. The dirt and mud on her face and with any luck matted in her hair. Me and Luna laughed together creating a thunderous laugh.
“I’m sorry that is the best thing I have pictured all day. I would have paid to have it on video.” I said threw laughs.
“Here I thought the crop was the best idea of today.” Eric smiled amused. Ass.
I stopped laughing and gave him a dirty look, he shrugged and kept smiling. The look of disgust was in my mothers’ eyes.
“Still entertaining filth, I see.” Mother stated.
“Who else survived.” I asked ignoring her comment.
“Your sister and father. Your uncle perished in that dungeon because of you.” Mother glowered at me.
I sighed and looked at my nails like there was something interesting. “He shouldn’t have tortured me and feed me full of drugs.” I looked up at her.
I remember his death well. He was the first to die when I got out of my chains. The look of horror was absolute. I had ripped the chains from the wall and rushed the metal door. Even I didn’t know if I could bring down the door, but I would die trying. It fell like a domino barely even tapped. His neck was in my hands and I squeezed. He stabbed me with the knife he had in his hands repeatedly I might add. It did nothing. I popped his head of like barbie the little noise to.
“Oh, hush he did no such thing.” Mother said in a dignified manner.
“No really the broken ribs, melted skin and stabbings were just little love taps.” I said sarcastically. Looking at my nails I sat back into the couch and crossed my legs.
Alex suddenly tensed. Yeah, I felt it to dude. The memory of all that pain.
“Exactly. After all you needed correction.” She was serious.
I smiled, ah there is the mother I love.
I kept the smile plastered to my face. “Where is he?”
“Your father will be down in a minute he is finishing paperwork on the twelfth realm. Nasty business they are having.” Mother said nonchalantly waving her hand in the air.
“Where is my son?” My voice turned cold and deadly. I really didn’t give a flying rat s**t about the man who calls himself my father.
Mother looked at me matching my coldness. “Like I would tell you child. After all you tried to murder you whole family, your mate’s own family suffered immense casualty because of you. They want to kill him especially the old deltas wife. I should offer you up on a silver platter and let them pick your bones clean. You have been a naughty daughter who has disgraced her whole family.”
“And?”
“You’re such a fool. To young to understand and to stupid to want to. Things must happen without our interference. Your son is a giant interference not just on the natural order but the celestial as well. An abomination like his mother.” She spat the venom lacing her words.
“Mother, I heard from Ruby that Rose is here-“A angelic voice came from the door way.
