Tangled in the Dark

868 Words
The city slept, but the streets felt alive—whispers of danger carried in the air, mingling with the scent of rain and leather. My heartbeat had been racing ever since I left Lucien’s side last night, each memory of his touch, his scent, his gold eyes making my skin tingle. I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about him like this. I wasn’t supposed to crave him. And yet, every step I took toward my studio, I felt the magnetic pull, the dangerous lure that had been consuming me since our first encounter. “Lost in thought?” The voice came from the shadows, low and smooth, making my spine shiver. I turned, breath catching. There he was—Lucien. Coat damp, hair falling over his forehead, golden eyes piercing me. Close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off him, strong enough that my body reacted before my mind could protest. “You…” I started, but words failed me. He smirked, stepping closer. “Everywhere you go, I find you. Every heartbeat, I feel you.” His fingers brushed my jaw softly, teasing. Sparks of heat shot through me. “Lucien… stop,” I whispered, though my fingers twitched toward him, craving more. “Not yet,” he said, leaning in just enough that his lips brushed mine in a teasing whisper of contact. My knees threatened to buckle. “But soon…” Before I could respond, the alleyway shivered with movement. Shadows shifted unnaturally, and I could feel the tension spike. Lucien stiffened instantly, protective and coiled like a predator. His hand gripped my wrist, pulling me behind a dumpster. “They’re close,” he murmured, jaw tight, eyes glowing gold. “Rival pack. They’ve been following you since last night. They’ll try to take what belongs to me.” I swallowed hard, pressing myself against him. My lips still tingled from the near-touch. “Why me?” “Because you’re different,” he said softly, voice low and dangerous. “Because you’re mine. And the bite… it’s already claiming you.” His fingers traced the line of my jaw again, teasing, dangerous, electric. My breath hitched. Every nerve in my body was alive with tension, desire, and fear. “Lucien…” I whispered, barely audible. “Yes?” His lips hovered just above mine, teasing, brushing, but not giving in. Sparks flew through me like wildfire. “I… I can’t resist…” I admitted, voice trembling. He smiled faintly, dangerous and knowing. “Good. You won’t. Not for long.” Then a low growl echoed through the alley, cutting the tension like a knife. Lucien’s head snapped up, muscles taut, eyes glowing gold. His hand pressed against my back, pulling me close, body warm and suffocating in the best possible way. “They’re near,” he whispered. “And they’ll try anything tonight.” I shivered, torn between fear and the fire burning between us. My lips tingled from the brush, from his presence, from the magnetic pull that made every heartbeat feel like an electric shock. Lucien tilted my chin, forcing my gaze to meet his. “Every time you feel that pull,” he murmured, voice low and rough, “know that it’s the bite. Know that it’s mine. And soon, you’ll crave it… crave me.” I could barely breathe. My fingers curled into his coat, needing to feel him, needing the tension to explode. My lips hovered near his, aching for contact, aching for the fire. He leaned closer, brushing his lips against my temple, then my jaw, teasing, dangerous. Sparks danced across my skin, and I felt my body respond before my mind could even think. A distant howl split the night. Claws scraped concrete. Lucien’s body coiled like a spring, protective and deadly. His golden eyes scanned the street, every sense alert, every muscle ready. “They won’t stop,” he whispered, pressing against me. “Not until they know… you’re mine.” I trembled, lips tingling, heart racing, and realized—he wasn’t just dangerous. He was addictive. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. “Lucien…” I breathed, brushing my fingers against his chest, feeling the strength beneath. “Yes?” he murmured, leaning down just slightly, lips teasing mine again. Sparks, fire, desire. “Soon… it will be impossible to resist. Every heartbeat, every touch, every glance will pull you in. And you’ll surrender.” I gasped as he brushed his lips again—just barely—against mine, teasing, sending shivers through me. My body ached. My pulse pounded. My lips begged for more. Then, movement in the shadows. A figure leapt across the rooftops. Lucien stiffened instantly, protective, alpha, dangerous. I pressed closer, wanting the fire, the heat, the danger—wanting him to claim me in every way he could. “They’re here,” he whispered, teeth flashing in a faint snarl. “Stay close. And remember… once the bite takes hold… nothing will ever be the same.” And just like that, he vanished into the shadows, leaving me trembling, burning, and utterly consumed by the pull that I knew would destroy and save me all at once.
