Amelia gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles white as she focused on the dark, winding road. She was heading home, but her heart felt uneasy. Michael had insisted on staying the night with his grandfather. She had wanted to stay, too, but without a spare nightgown, she had reluctantly decided to leave. The weather was getting worse, the wind picking up and the sky thickening with heavy clouds. She brushed off the nagging feeling in her stomach, but it lingered like an itch she couldn’t scratch.
