An hour later, Amelia is standing in front of the full-length mirror in the room, dressed up and holding onto the hand of her luggage box which was beside her.
Her eyes were red and puffy for she hadn't stopped herself from crying them out after Sebastian left.
Wiping off the last drop of tears, she pulled up a stiff expression and tied up her hair in a ponytail. She took one final look at the room before walking to the side cupboard by the left side of the bed. She took out the wedding ring with a bit of reluctance and placed it on the cupboard. With one final sigh, she evacuated Sebastian's house, not bothering to take one last glance at it.
“Amelia, why are you here?” That was the first question she got from her father, Dutch, who first saw her the moment she walked into the Kitsteen mansion.
“Father, I…” Amelia paused, losing words as she saw the other family members surrounding the vast living room.
“Speak, girl!” Dutch commanded, his brows creased.
“I'm back, father. I've got nothing now. Sebastian and I are…” she swallowed hard, holding back the tears that were threatening to burst forth. “We are done. We've divorced and…”
Paaaa! Amelia received a slap from her father that hardened her tender cheek and made her quiver before she could finish talking.
Lifting her gaze, she trembled upon seeing her father shooting a deadly stare at her. She wasn't all surprised but she hadn't expected a slap from him.
“You, fool! You left this house two years ago against my will to obstinately marry Sebastian and now you've divorced him? What a shame! You considered me and the family worthless to heed to my decision and now look at you.”
“Pff. She was as stubborn as a mule, father,” Her step-sister, Gianna, ridiculed and chuckled. But sighting Sir Tower, her grandfather forced her to compose herself.
Unable to hold it, Amelia let the hot tears stream down her cheeks as she sobbed.
“I'm sorry, Father. I was so wrong back then. Please, forgive me,” she pleaded.
Louisa, her stepmother intervened with impure concern. “Don't be harsh on our daughter, Dutch. But, you were wrong Amelia. You've hurt your father by choosing Sebastian over him.”
“That day you decided to marry him, I cut ties with you. Now, I want you to get away from me and this family!”
Amelia quickly fell on her knees, hands clasped. “Please, father, forgive me.”
“You're not forgiven. You're not a part of this family anymore!”
“You don't decide that, Dutch,” Sir Tower chimed in. Everyone went silent and he stared down at Amelia. “My dear?”
“Grandfather.” Amelia lowered her head in shame as her grandfather walked up to her. He reached her and raised her.
“Never go on your knees, my dear.” He leaned in and whispered. “You're to make people go on their knees. It shouldn't be the other way round.”
Amelia managed to chuckle and hugged her grandfather. She found respite in his arms.
Sir Tower disengaged from the hug and turned to face the family, standing in front of Amelia like a pillar.
“Father, Amelia went against me and…”
“Dutch. She's my granddaughter and don't you ever think of ousting her. She's my pride.”
“Grandfather, she went against you too by marrying Sebastian and she has brought shame to our great family by shamelessly divorcing Sebastian. It's a mockery of us,” Gianna stated, glaring at Amelia.
Sir Tower eyed her. Despite the indirect warning he gave her, she attempted to talk but her mother, Louisa grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
“Everyone. Listen up. Amelia has returned and she's going to be living in this house. I don't want anyone to say anything awful to her regarding the past.”
“We can't just move on, Father.”
“This is my decision, Dutch!”
“With due respect, Father, I would like to know how we are going to handle the press. I'm sure some people already know about Amelia's sudden divorce and…”
“Louisa.” Sir Tower walked up to her and chuckled, skeptically. “You're more concerned about people you want to be involved in our family matters,” he whispered to her. “Cease doing that.”
“I think you've misunderstood me.”
“I know better, daughter-in-law.” Sir Tower shifted his gaze to Gianna standing next to her before walking back to Amelia.
“This is my decision and it's final,” he declared and left.
“She does the most wrong things and gets away with it. Nonsense,” Gianna scoffed and left. Soon, everyone left the room and Lina, Amelia's cousin, walked up to her.
“Amelia.” She held Amelia's hand and hugged her. “What happened? I thought things were great between you and Sebastian.”
Amelia gulped as she stared at Lina’s confused and worried face. “I'm font with him, Lina. He betrayed me.”
A slight gasp escaped Lina's lips before she pulled Amelia into a hug again, patting her back in the form of consolation
The next few weeks weren't the best weeks for Amelia. She felt sick and constantly locked herself up in her room, not wanting to bother anyone with her moodiness. One certain day, she decided to go to the hospital and have herself checked.
“Congratulations, Miss,” The doctor who checked her said as he returned some moments later with a white envelope. “You're pregnant.”
Amelia slowly arose, mouth agape and bewildered.
‘It can't be. How can I be pregnant?’ she thought. Running her shaky fingers through her hair, she glued her eyes at the doctor as she quickly recalled the intimacy she last had with Sebastian. Everything became clear to her.
“You're four weeks pregnant, Miss,” the doctor informed, causing her to dive into thoughts.
‘I’m carrying the child of a horrible man. I don't want this.’ She sighed and thought of an abortion.
“Doctor, can I abort this?”
He furrowed his eyes and shook his head vehemently. “You're four weeks pregnant and abortion can lead to the end of your life. It's not good to kill that great unborn child.”
Nodding slowly, Amelia took her bag and left without taking the envelope from the doctor. Returning home, she stared at her reflection in the mirror and broke down in tears.
“How could I think of killing my child? I'm horrible.” She shook her head. Then Lina walked in. Seeing her in that state, she locked the door behind her before rushing to her.
“What's wrong, Amelia?”
“I'm pregnant, Lina, and I had opted for an abortion earlier. I feel awful.”
“It's okay. What's your plan now?”
“I…don't know.” Amelia rolled her eyes and looked away, feeling confused.
After her pregnancy was eight weeks, Amelia secretly went to do an ultrasound and was amazed when the doctor informed her that she was carrying twins. She couldn't keep the good news to herself.
She went straight to Lina's apartment and met her to share the good news.
“Oh, my goodness. Twins?! This is awesome.” Kina giggled and hugged her. “What's your plan now…”
“I'm going to give birth to my babies,” Amelia said with excitement. “And I am going to make sure that neither of them ends up being like their despicable father.
“That's good. Your family?”
“My father is still upset and I don't want to tell anyone yet about my pregnancy. I hope it can be our little secret.”
“Come on. I got you.”
“I know I can always trust you.” Amelia grinned as they locked their gaze.
One evening, the Kristeen family were having dinner.
“Amelia, I think you should start working for the company,” Sir Tower suggested.
“Father, she doesn't know much, and she should learn from mother first before…”
“Gianna, you've been talking way more than required,” Sir Tower interrupted.
“I'm saying what I feel. You're kind of throwing opportunities at Amelia now when she hasn't earned it like me.”
“You've never earned anything, girl,” Sir Tower corrected. Feeling greatly insulted, Gianna excused herself and left the table.
“Father, honestly speaking, Amelia shouldn't start working in the company. She doesn't know as much as Gianna. Gianna is fit to keep on working and Amelia can learn the ropes from her,” Louisa said, elegantly.
Sir Tower smirked. “Gianna is no better. But Amelia is the best one. I've made my decision. Okay?”
Glancing at Dutch and smiling, Louisa nodded and went on eating. She stole glances at Amelia as she clenched her fist below the table and kept a happy face.
Amelia went to see Lina one day and when Lina went to get her something to drink, she turned on the TV. The station displayed the news of Sebastian getting married to Marie. Amelia's jaw tensed up as she arose. Her expression stiffened.
Her blood boiled as she saw them holding hands and smiling like high school lovers before their host.
She felt like breaking the TV in a rage just when Lina returned. Noticing her change of expression, Lina stared at the TV and quickly changed the station.
“Amelia, do not get affected by this, okay.”
“Never. I…” Amelia paused and let out a slight moan as she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.
“Are you okay?”
“Hm.” She forced a smile. She excused herself and went to the bathroom. Slightly pulling up her gown, she realized she was bleeding but not profusely.
“My goodness.” Anxiety overtook her. She quickly left the bathroom and told Lina she was going to return soon. Then she drove straight to the hospital.

“Doctor, what's going on? Are my unborn babies doing well?” She asked hastily after being checked on.
He looked at her and she could have a whiff of his low spiritedness which increased her level of anxiety.
“Talk to me, doctor, please.”
“It's so unfortunate and hard to say. You lost a child. I'm sorry.”
Amelia opened her mouth to say something but no words came out. She was utterly shocked. She gulped, trying to hold back the tears that had formed in her eyes. She bit her lower lip as she tried to pull herself together despite quivering.
