40 STARTLING STORIES Grimaldi groaned melodramatically. “I’ll tell you about it later,” Luis said. “Briefing tomorrow A.M., don’t be late!” Grimaldi shouted as Luis was walking out. In the lobby on an end-table was Lu-is’s magnetic field camera. He had hastily plugged it in when he ran into the meeting. Now it was charged and Luis pulled it ex-citedly from its charger. He powered it up and flipped to the picture from Emswhiller Canyon. He was certain he would find con-firmation there—Principal Malcolm’s mag-netic signature would undoubtedly be bright white, proving he was afflicted with what-ever mind expanding, mind destroying con-dition killed Skylar Bloomquist.
