The next morning…
The maidservant woke up, to find herself still in bed with the king. She released a soft gasp as yesterday’s events came crashing back to her conscious mind. She looked around the room, panicked at what she had done. She noticed the king’s arm draped over her waist as he slept, and she gently lifted it up and slid out of bed. She paused as the king stirred in his sleep; afraid she may have woken him.
She scrambled for her clothes before quietly sneaking out of the room. As she disappeared around one corner, a panicked Allison appeared out the other corner. Frantically opening every door, she came across.
“Where is he?” she whisper-yelled as she went on to the next door. “My plan will be ruined if I don’t find him! Heck it may already be ruined!”
“If Valen wasn’t such a good lay, I would have found Andreas sooner last night and managed to get in his bed. But he just had to go on and on until we were both too worn out to even move! If I lose my chance at becoming queen after I worked so hard, then whether I love him or not, I will never forgive him!” she cursed under her breath as she continued her search.
She opened a door and was about to turn back when she noticed the bed had been disheveled. She walked in and found a man lying there. She smiled triumphantly when she recognized it to be Andreas, the king.
“Found you,” she whispered to herself.
She took in the state of the room, noting his clothes tossed on the floor and deduced that he lay naked under the sheets.
Satisfied with that, she quickly undressed and went to the other side of the bed. She was about to slide into bed next to him when she noticed the red spot on the cream-coloured sheets and frowned. “He slept with someone, here.” She thought to herself.
She shrugged before sliding in next to him. This worked out perfectly for her because she had never slept with Andreas. So, when he woke up, and saw that blood spot in the bed, he will think that it was her that he slept with the night before. And because she had been a virgin, he would have to marry her and make her queen.
She smiled triumphantly to herself, happy at how her devious plan was working out in her favour. She was sending a quick ‘thank you’ to the universe for being on her side, when the king started to stir next to her.
She quickly shut her eyes and pretended to be waking up along with him.
When his stormy grey eyes met hers, a look of confusion passed them, before realization set in and he jumped out of bed in surprise and she quickly sat up, covering herself with the sheet.
“Lady Allison!” he exclaimed.
“Your majesty,” she said softly, looking down shyly.
“What is happening? Where am I? These are not my quarters.” He fired at once, before clutching his forehead as a headache slammed into him.
“Your majesty, do you…not remember what happened last night?” Allison asked tentatively. The king shook his head.
She smiled internally, realizing that reality was hers to manipulate however she saw fit. “Well, actually your majesty, you’d had a lot to drink at the ball and so I tried to help you up to your quarters, but you were impatient with me and we…” she said shyly. A blush creeping up her porcelain cheeks as she looked away, embarrassed.
He looked at the bed and noticed the red spot peeking out from where the covers were drawn back and muttered curses under his breath.
“Are you alright? Did I hurt you?” he asked carefully.
“I am alright, your majesty,” Allison replied, before letting a tear slip down her face. “I-It’s j-just that,” she choked out, sobbing.
Andreas stood there, confused, and horrified as he watched the woman in the bed choke on tears as she tried to get a sentence out. “What is it?” he asked as he slowly and carefully made his way to her side of the bed.
“I am ruined now!” She exclaimed as she cried. “What man will want me? My virtue is gone”
Andreas rushed to sit next to her before pulling her into his embrace. “Please, don’t worry about it. I will do right by you.” He soothed as he rocked her to comfort her. She smiled deviously into his chest before she pushed herself up off his chest to look him in the face, “Your majesty, I couldn’t possibly ask you to,” she continued to sob as she weakly protested.
“You are not asking, I’m telling you. I will marry you, Lady Allison.”
---
Back at the servant quarters, the young maidservant tiptoed her way as she tried to reach her room. Before she could open the door, she heard an “Ahem” behind her, and she froze in place.
She slowly turned around, meeting the cold gaze of the head maidservant – an older woman with graying hair tied in a neat bun at the base of her head. She had her arms folded over her chest, looking unimpressed as she stared down the young woman. She arched a brow before asking, “And where are you coming from in that state?”
The young maid immediately threw herself at the head maidservant’s feet, weeping as she confessed, “I’m sorry mistress, I have committed a great sin!”
The older woman immediately unfolded her arms, a look of concern flashing across her features at the young maid’s words. She quickly pulled the girl to her feet before pushing both of them into the young maid’s room and closing the door behind them.
“Melissa, what happened?” the older woman asked, her words and voice laced with concern.
Melissa cried as she recounted the events of last night to the older woman – making sure to omit that the man who had deflowered her was the king.
“This may be problematic,” the older woman said, deep in thought. “The way I see it dear, is that you have two options, should you turn out to be pregnant from this encounter; abortion or leaving the palace.”
