It started at a group counseling session. Gemma didn’t even want to go. But then Evan showed up—loud, obnoxious, flirtatious. Gemma hated him instantly. Then laughed at his terrible puns. Then smiled again when he randomly said, “You don’t have to be strong all the time. Just honest.”
Somehow, that stuck.
Evan had a twin brother named Alex, who Gemma learned was smart like Sarah—but quieter, more reserved. Evan wasn’t shy about bragging that Alex “held their entire GPA together.”
Gemma asked if Alex would be willing to help Sarah with her history project, which was quickly becoming Sarah’s academic downfall. Evan said he’d talk to him.
Chapter Five: Pressure Cooker
Sarah’s brain was a swamp of due dates and missed quizzes. Her still life art project, culinary reflection journal, and that monstrous AP World History video were all breathing down her neck.
Then Alex showed up.
Their first meeting was rocky. Sarah bristled at his calm, methodical tone. He seemed unbothered by the chaos. She hated that.
But they met again. And again. A boba shop. The library. Quiet corners of the city where they filmed scenes about the Opium Wars, the French Revolution, and other history topics.
Alex brought his tech gear. Sarah brought her camera and script.
Slowly, something shifted. She started trusting his suggestions. He started seeing the pressure she was under.
