Chapter 2 He Was Your First Love?

1563 Words
"A writer once said something about when you meet an ex you've never slept with, you should probably give it a go at least once. And you are just..." William's eyes boldly swept over her body. "You're just so ready for that now!" Following his gaze, Elizabeth looked down at herself. Her smooth and delicate skin was barely covered by her black lace nightgown, exuding an irresistible allure. It was a sight that could make anyone's imagination run wild. "You wouldn't dare, William!" "Heh, so now you remember who I am? I knew you were just pretending you didn't know me last night!" Elizabeth blacked out. She honestly couldn't remember what she'd done last night, but the fact that Chloe had sent her money meant it must have been terrible. "So, that's why you are here?" Knowing his intent, Elizabeth calmed down as she realized her intention, smirking charmingly. She was a completely different person now compared to three years ago. William's eyes narrowed, and his hand crept toward her neck as they stood closely. "Tell me, you suddenly disappeared three years ago, and now you just show up like this? What do you want?" "Suddenly disappeared?" Elizabeth mused over these words. "That's what they told you?" William paused, frowning. "What are you trying to say?" "Nothing. Since you're engaged now, Mr. Dickens, let's just let bygones be bygones. A good ex is a dead ex, right?" Suddenly, William's grip tightened. "If that's the case, then why are you still showing up in front of me, Elizabeth? Why say those things? What are you really playing at?" Elizabeth scoffed, "I didn't realize you cared so much, Mr. Dickens. You have never truly moved on after these three years, right?" She chuckled, covering her mouth. Her smile was so breathtaking that it seemed to pale the world. "I never thought you were such a sentimental man. I'm just a nobody. How could I ever..." "Elizabeth, don't push your luck!" he growled, tightening his grip. Elizabeth was nearly out of breath, yet her stubbornness left no room for pleading. Just then, a man walked in. He was just as imposing as William, and he reminded, "Mr. Dickens, such behavior is hardly appropriate in my home." William noticed the newcomer, sizing him up before uttering, "Alexander York!" "I'm glad you still remember me, Mr. Dickens. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" "This is your place?" William spoke with a malicious undertone. "It is!" Alexander replied firmly. William glanced at Elizabeth and slowly released her. Then, he stepped back with his hands in his pockets. His face gave nothing away, but a faint, enigmatic smile played on his lips. "We'll meet again, Elizabeth." Elizabeth shivered slightly. Alexander walked into the room. His gaze fixed on William's retreating figure and his voice was devoid of emotion. "Mr. Dickens, don't forget to close the door behind you." If anyone could get away with saying that to William, it would definitely be Alexander. "Humph!" William snorted, leaving an imposing silhouette. Once William had taken the elevator down, Alexander closed the door and came back in. "Did he do anything to you?" Elizabeth instantly relaxed. "No. Alex, what took you so long?" She would never have opened the door if she had known it was William. "I got stuck in traffic and ran a bit late. What's he even doing here?" Alexander seemed to ask casually, setting breakfast on the table. Elizabeth's fingers twitched. "Alex, did you take care of what I asked?" Alexander had always doted on his little sister Elizabeth, and if there were things she preferred not to talk about, he wouldn't ask. He walked over and gently stroked her hair. "How could I forget? Here you go, Lizzie, this is what you wanted." He handed over an invitation. Elizabeth took it. It was a Dickens' birthday party invitation. Memories flickered in her mind, then faded like smoke. ***** After breakfast, Elizabeth received a call from Chloe again. "Please tell me you have made your escape, my dear fearless troublemaker." Elizabeth smiled sweetly, her dimples flashing. "Nope, why would I?" Elizabeth wasn't the least bit worried, but Chloe was freaking out. "Aren't you concerned about William coming after you?" "Have you forgotten why I came back this time?" Chloe blinked, confused at first, then her eyes widened in disbelief. "f**k me! That William was your first love who ditched you?" Elizabeth grinned. "Bingo! Full marks for you!" "No way! I thought you were just using some cliché pickup line on him last night, but he's actually that guy..." Hearing this, Elizabeth couldn't help but frown. "What on earth did I do last night?" Chloe was about to tease Elizabeth about her blackout the night before, but considering everyone had been pretty wasted, she sent a video instead. Elizabeth watched it with a smile on her face. "Seriously, that felt amazing!" Chloe's voice chimed from the phone. "Congrats on dealing with that loser so fast, Lizzie. Let's hit the mall for a shopping spree!" "Hell yeah!" Elizabeth needed a dress for the banquet anyway, and she was eager to check out the stores in Yougvan City. As soon as they stepped into a boutique, Chloe immediately spotted a red dress. "Elizabeth, you would absolutely stun everyone in that dress. You must try it on. Let the clerk bring it for you!" "Okay!" Elizabeth was also excited to see how it looked on her. But just then, someone walked in and arrogantly said, "I want that dress and I will try it first!" The voice was familiar, the tone as insolent as ever, even after three years apart. The store clerk gave Elizabeth an apologetic look. "Miss, I'm so sorry, but she's the young lady of the Dickens family, one of our most valued clients. Please, let her try on the dress first." Elizabeth turned gracefully, exuding a sense of sophistication. "Oh? Is that so? Well, if she's the young lady of the Dickens family, then I definitely can't let her try first." "Elizabeth... You're Elizabeth York!" Ella Dickens stared at her in astonishment. Elizabeth approached her, smiling faintly, "Ms. Dickens, am I really that much of a surprise?" The next second, Ella lunged at her. "Elizabeth, you shameless b***h! How dare you mess with my brother again! On behalf of William's soon-to-be wife, take this!" Elizabeth dodged aside easily, and Ella went sprawling, face-first into the dirt. Elizabeth sneered, "Ms. Dickens, I know you owe me an apology, but you are flattering me with such dramatic respect after we just met each other. How am I supposed to accept this courtesy?" Ella's face contorted with rage. "Go to hell, damned b***h!" Elizabeth narrowed her eyes and subtly tripped Ella as she approached, causing her to fall again. "Ah!" "Ella!" Someone rushed into the store and hurried to Ella's side. "Are you alright?" When had Ella ever been so humiliated? She turned her head and saw Elizabeth, smug and victorious. Then, she rose to her feet with Eleanor Jones's help. At that moment, her eyes met Elizabeth's, and her gaze blazed with fury. "I'm fine, Eleanor, you don't have to worry about me. I just didn't expect to see her so soon. She must be back in Yougvan City to steal your husband away." Eleanor turned her head, locking eyes with Elizabeth. No, it couldn't be. How could Elizabeth... Elizabeth clearly caught every flicker of emotion in her gaze, her voice dripping with icy sarcasm. "Eleanor, never thought you would see me again, right?" Eleanor froze for a moment. Ella looked at them both, puzzled. "Eleanor, what's she talking about?" Eleanor's face was ashen. Well, it looked like they were something even Ella didn't know. Elizabeth turned to Ella and scoffed. "Ella, I think you've got it all wrong. I have a brother to back me up, and I'm certainly not interested in William. But you... three years and you haven't changed a bit. You still love to steal what isn't yours. Are you a dog, or what?" Ella's eyes flashed with anger. "Elizabeth, cut the act. You know exactly what I mean. And for the record, you are the b***h!" "Ah!" The next second, Ella cried out in pain. Chloe, who had appeared beside her at some point, grabbed her hair forcefully and smiled. "Who did you just call a b***h, Ella?" "I was talking about Elizabeth. What does it have to do with you!" Chloe sneered, "Elizabeth is my best friend. Insulting her is insulting me. I've heard things about you and they always annoyed me. Now I finally have a chance to deal with you!" With that said, her grip tightened. Eleanor walked over in concern. "Elizabeth, please, let go of Ella. It was my fault back then. Ella had nothing to do with it." "Eleanor, don't beg her! I can take this…" Ella cried out, though her voice hitched in pain. Chloe didn't bother to do anything more. She tightened her grip on Ella's hair just enough to make Ella wince. Elizabeth looked at her in disdain. "Still playing the innocent victim, Eleanor? Only a fool like Ella would believe you!" "Who are you calling a fool!" Ella was so furious she nearly jumped up. Elizabeth casually replied, "Whoever responds is the fool!" "You..." Suddenly, another person walked in. "Let her go!"
