He carried a sense of authority that oppressed the entire room.
Elizabeth glanced over, thinking it was someone significant, but it turned out to be William. Was he here to back up his fiancée?
Sure enough, Eleanor rushed to William. "William, you have to do something! Help Ella!"
William's eyes locked with Chloe's.
Chloe had to admit that this man was indeed intimidating. But with Elizabeth at her side, she had nothing to fear and simply ignored him.
William then looked toward Elizabeth.
Gracefully, Elizabeth walked over to Ella's side.
Ella was still spitting out fiercely. "Elizabeth, my brother's here. You better back off if you know what's good for you..."
Her words were cut short by a sharp slap across the face.
"Ella!" Eleanor cried out, sounding as if Ella were her own sister.
Chloe gave Elizabeth a thumbs up. She had thought Elizabeth was intimidated by William.
Stunned, Ella exclaimed in disbelief, "Did you just hit me?"
Smack!
Elizabeth slapped her again.
"That's for everything you did to me, Ella. I'm hitting you because I can. I don't care if your brother or the freaking President was here today. I'm not scared of anyone!"
She glared at Ella, her voice cold. "You can never repay what you owed me in this lifetime!"
Then, she turned to Chloe and said, "Chloe, let's go!"
As Chloe let go of Ella, she yanked her hair hard once more.
Ella was about to shout back when she caught William's look. She felt completely wronged!
As Elizabeth passed by William, she glanced at him and Eleanor. Eleanor was practically getting closer to him and clinging herself to his arm as she smirked mockingly.
"A jerk and a shank. Perfect match. Hurry up and get married, please! And stop ruining other people's lives."
Then, Elizabeth and Chloe left with their heads held high.
Ella was ready to chase after Elizabeth with a mouthful of insults, but William grabbed her arm tightly. "Ella, haven't you caused enough scenes?"
Ella looked at him with pleading eyes. "William, you don't understand how nasty Elizabeth was. She called me a dog, you a jerk, and Eleanor a skank! How can you just let her walk away after that?"
William narrowed his eyes. "Tell me, what did she mean by saying you could never repay what you had owed her in this lifetime?"
Ella quickly looked away, avoiding his gaze.
When she looked at him again, she said, "William, weren't you here to help Eleanor find a dress for Grandpa's birthday party? Let's go. I think that red one would look stunning on her..."
William entered the store. Eleanor let out a sigh of relief.
*****
On the weekend, William's grandfather, Byron Dickens, was celebrating his birthday.
Countless celebrities from various industries arrived, truly honoring the Dickens family and Byron.
William entered with Eleanor, who was dressed in a stunning red gown, instantly becoming the center of attention. As the Dickens family's heir, William had only been back for three years, yet he had already managed the family affairs impeccably and led the Dickens family to new heights.
At just twenty-five, he was already making waves in the business world.
However, William had reached the age where marriage was expected, and over the years, Eleanor had been the only woman by his side. Naturally, their appearance caught everyone's attention.
"Mr. Dickens and Ms. Jones are such a perfect match!"
"I know, right? They've been together for what, five or six years? Hey, Mr. Dickens, when are you two getting married?"
