Dwayne chuckled. "If you like it, feel free to have another serving later."
"Well, then, thanks a lot," Elizabeth replied.
As she spoke, she felt someone grasp her hand.
Claiming her feelings hadn't changed was simply impossible; however, Elizabeth wasn't the same person she used to be. She swiftly shook off William's hand.
"Mr. Dickens, please behave yourself!" she admonished.
Initially, she didn't want to say anything, especially with Dwayne present. But William was really overstepping his bounds. If she didn't speak up, he'd probably think she was a pushover.
With just those words, the previously pleasant atmosphere once again turned awkward.
William glanced at her. "Lizzie, I just wanted to see if you could really handle spicy food. Don't push yourself too hard!"
