“We have to get her out of there,” Matteo growled, pacing impatiently in front of the couches in the living room. They’d just gotten back from whatever that demonstration in front of the Palazzo dell’Orologio had been, and seeing Aurora in shackles had broken something inside of him. It took even more space in his mind than hearing his father lie to King Riccardo. If he was being honest, he was holding his breath after meeting his father’s gaze for that split second, knowing that he’d recognized him, and that his own son’s life was quite literally in his hands now. He could have told his ally. But even though he always turned a blind eye to King Riccardo’s horrible way of ruling his kingdom, insisting that it was none of his business and that he wouldn’t interfere with another king’s way
