Chapter 31: Third Mission

911 Words
‘Where are you?’ “Rooftop. Do I really have to snipe?” ‘Yes. We know you can’t do shootouts.’ “That’s not my point. How can you expect a programmer to handle a sniping rifle? I don’t even know how to assemble this.” ‘And yet you’re already using the scope?’ “The hell! Are you really keeping a close eye on me?” ‘You’re still on probation Williams, you can’t expect the higher up’s on cutting you some loose. Besides, out of the three missions we gave you, never once did you do it on your own.” “Is it my fault that some people are also after your target? Jeez. And giving such huge assignments to a programmer? What are you CIA’s are thinking?” ‘I am just also following orders, Williams. Better follow them too. That is, if you want better     accommodations than what you have now. And also, your daughter is already living her life comfortably. The least you can do is finish this mission cleanly.’ “Psh. Whatever.” ‘And will you cut with your “just a programmer” nonsense? We both know you’re not.’ “You’re really no fun you know that? Oh! They’re already moving. Later, then.” ‘Ich wünsche dir viel Glück, Williams.’ (I wish you luck, Williams.)   ------   Tanya’s “We have a problem!” That cry from Monty made me and Haru look at the video footages on the monitor. We can see him on camera 6 but he’s running outside the frame and suddenly reappeared in camera 8. “Opal was sniped!” He loudly announced. My eyes widened and Haru need not need an order from me as he immediately zoomed-in the monitor. Monty was dragging Opal behind a broken car. And when they’re both hidden, he turned to the camera. “Send the bees Haru.” He simply said. “On it.” And I heard Haru’s reply right away. “She’s sniped? But how? Did the enemy knew about us?” Morty asked while still exchanging bullets with the enemy. “There’s no way they’ll know. But we’ll find out the truth once we seize him.” Monty replied. He was busy applying pressure to Opal’s wound while the latter fainted in shock. Luckily, he is our designated medic when times like this occurs so he need not need any back up to aid Opal’s wound. “Miss Tanya.” Morty called out my name few seconds later. I looked at the monitor he’s in and simply ordered. “Go.” In which he immediately obliged. We are currently our third mission on an abandoned building where the illegal exchange of human organs is secretly taking place. We are almost finished with the shootouts and the seize of every people involved in the illegal trade when Monty shouted Opal’s sniping incident. I became so worried that I almost sprint out from our mini-van but fortunately, I managed to stop myself as I saw how Monty was already sufficient enough to be Opal’s backup. It’s hard but I really need to endure being helpless for a little longer. My identity should not be jeopardized as early as now or else, all of our plans will be wasted. Samantha is not an easy enemy. I can concur as much as that already. “Found him!” Haru thrillingly declared. I looked at the drone controller monitor in his hand. He continued. “He’s on a rooftop of the Tire factory from about 100 meters away across here, Sir Morty.” “Already here. Give me some details.” Morty’s voice echoed with certainty. Me and Haru were a bit surprised. Did he just say that he’s already there? Well, I guess it’s to be expected from a former FBI agent. As per Morty’s order, Haru’s drone followed the sniper stealthily before zooming in the camera. “He’s wearing a cleaners’ uniform with a guitar case on his shoulder, Sir. But he must have spare clothes prepared beforehand. Will locate possible exits now.” Haru reported and turned back his computer. Within only less than a minute, he briskly hacked that specific Tire Factory’s server and saw the building floor plan. He also looked into their cameras after. That’s when I had a clear view of our target. “Backdoor, just beneath the emergency exit.” I told Morty after checking where the target is headed. “The target keeps on changing clothes per floor but he’s about 180 cm tall, dark skinned- pause that clip and zoom it in-” I ordered Haru midway when I noticed something. “Focus it on the feet…yes, right there.” I stared at the screen for a while and finally confirmed my suspicion. Haru saw it too and he astonishingly looked at me. I smiled proudly and continued. “And his left ankle has a visible scar, Morty.” “That’s a great find Miss Tanya. Thanks. I’m on my way to the exit now.” Morty praised me as well as the others. But all those efforts and praise were drained when the target managed to outsmart us and was able to escape from our grasp using a bold and direct move. He just casually walked out from the building using the main exit in front wearing the same cleaners uniform he wore at the beginning. A move we never anticipated.
