Chapter 7: A Home, A Family

1355 Words
“How is she, Doctor?” Tanya asked the physician who treated the kid that she and her bodyguards brought in. “She’s now doing fine Miss. We already stitched up her wounds and gave her a bag of IV fluid. The kid was severely dehydrated. If she was not brought here immediately, she won’t be able to survive another 24 hours with all those wounds and injuries. She even had a fractured rib that caused her to cough up blood earlier.” Listening to the Doctor, Tanya can’t believe everything. How can someone do such cruel things to a kid? Tanya can't help but be furious. She hates the fact that she has no idea who did this. She wants justice for the kid, but how?  “All of her injuries indicated that she was beaten up, Miss. You said that you saw her on the road, right?” The doctor asked. “Yes. Due to some road maintenance, we took a long road on the way home. That’s where we saw the kid. It was a pretty secluded area. And since it was dark, I am not sure where exactly is that place.” “I see. The kid seems to be homeless and an orphan. If that’s the case, I’ll be calling Social Workers as well along with the Police. We need to properly report such cases and hand over the kid.” The doctor announced. Tanya nodded. “I understand Doctor, but can I ask for you not to call the Social Workers?” She asked. The Doctor’s brow furrowed. “May I know why, Miss?” Tanya took a glance at the kid sleeping behind the Doctor. “I want to take care of the kid. It was I who saw her and I just feel obligated for her welfare.” She explained. The Doctor also glanced at the kid then back to Tanya. “Even if I wanted to, I'm afraid I can’t decide that myself, Miss. Our hospital strictly abides with its rules and regulations. Only the higher ups can make such exemptions, I'm really sorry.” The Doctor gave Tanya an apologetic look. Tanya understood the Doctor’s point but she just can’t let the kid be handed over to the Social Workers. She knew how that felt. The feeling of being discarded. To be sent to strangers. And she doesn’t want the kid to feel it, too. It will surely break her heart.  Though against her principles, Tanya turned to Monty to ask for something. But Monty already read her mind. He was already on the phone and when she turned around, he passed the call immediately to her. She already knows who is the person from the other line. “Hello? It’s Tanya. Can I ask a favor from you, Rosette?” It was silence that answered to Tanya first.  “Tanya?!” Then she heard the surprised voice of Rosette shortly after. She also heard the woman clearing her throat. “I mean, Miss Tanya. Uhmm, sure thing. I can do every favor you want, Miss. Just say it.” Tanya smiled in relief. Rosette Collins. Russel’s younger sister and the President of TG Hospital Chain. Luckily, according from her memory. The hospital they are in is part of its subsidiaries. In short, she actually owned this hospital. After a short explanation with Rosette, Tanya handed the phone to the confused Doctor. The poor Physician went pale shortly after and immediately bowed to her when the call ended. “I'm sorry Miss Tanya. I will now arrange the papers immediately. Please excuse me.” The Doctor said and rushed away after. After the Doctor left, the kid on the bed suddenly opened her eyes and meet Tanya's.         “We’re here, Riley.” Tanya told the kid beside her after the car stopped in front of her house. Yesterday, she learned the name of the kid. And that was just it. Riley never talked again after that. The Doctor explained that Riley is too traumatized and that made her grew aloof and anxious. It will take some time for her to open up again. Tanya felt sad about that but she’s already decided. She will help Riley recover her trauma and hope that she will do so, within the remaining days that she had in this world. Her decision is already final. She will go back to her original world and nothing can change that. Even that strange obligatory feeling she had towards the kid. “Welcome home, Miss Tanya.” Gilbert greeted Tanya with a smile upon opening the door for her. But suddenly, Tanya felt a pull on her shirt behind. When she turned, she saw Riley holding the hem of her shirt after the kid saw Gilbert. She’s scared. Tanya turned to Gilbert and nodded. The butler happened to saw Riley’s reaction as well so he understood Tanya’s gesture and stepped away. “It’s okay. That man is my trusted butler. He’s not going to harm you.” Tanya gave Riley an assuring smile and held her hand while they both hopped out of the car. “This is my home Riley. And everyone that lives here, is my family. You too, will live here from now on as well. So, that makes me your family and their family, too.” Tanya announced and pointed the servants lined up in front of them. “Welcome home, Riley!”           “You bunch of idiots!” That loud scream echoed inside an abandoned building. Then a c*****g sound from a gun was heard. Bang! “Aahh!” That shriek came from the mouth of a man whose already on the ground. He just got shot on his left thigh. “I-i’m sorry Boss. I’m sorry. P-please spare me.” The man on the ground managed to clasp his two hands and begged. His temple burned red as the hot muzzle of the gun that was just fired, meets his skin. “Didn’t I tell you to pay attention to that brat? Huh?” The man holding the gun yelled at the man in the ground. “I spared the fact that you made a dent on our package and yet you lost her after? Do you really wanna get killed, huh? Huh?” “N-no boss. I’m so-” “What’s the commotion about, Alex?” That chilling voice appeared out of nowhere. The person named Alex immediately recognized the voice and quickly got up. When he turned, he saw their President along with its two bodyguards. He suddenly felt a cold breeze inside his body when their gaze met. “P-president.” He even stuttered. “What happened? I’m not asking thrice, Alex. You know how impatient I can be.” Their president warned. “T-the package was lost P-president. The package for Mr. Lee.” Alex said and looked down. He's too scared to see the President's reaction. “Mr. Lee? Anderson Lee?” The president asked. “Y-yes.” “I see.”  The President's answer was surprisingly calm so Alex looked at their President. He saw how its eyes were sharp while its face remained unfazed. Then it turned its gaze to the man on the ground then back to Alex. With a swift move, Alex was shot on his thigh and the man on the ground was shot between his eyes. Causing an instant death. “Clean your dead subordinate’s mess, Alex.” The president coldly said and walked out after. “Aaarrrrggghhh!!!” Alex yelled both for his shot thigh and the problem his men created. “Boss!” Alex’s other underlings went to him. “Look for that brat, you imbeciles! Clean this up immediately!!” He yelled at them in fury.
