Chapter 35: Clueless Tanya

1015 Words
Rosette walked back and forth inside her office. She has already heard about Russell’s sudden come back from his secretary in the US. She doesn’t exactly know why she’s feeling anxious. “Why am I being like this? It’s been so long since I’ve seen my brother personally! I should be happy!” Rosette mumbled to herself. She was so into her self-talking that she got easily startled when her intercom beeped. She immediately calmed herself down and answered. “Yes.” “Ms. Collins, the desk clerk downstairs called, informing that the Chairwoman is on her way up here.” Rosette’s eyes widened. Tanya is coming? She took her phone and saw a missed call from Tanya minutes ago. How could she not notice this? Right, she was so busy being anxious. “All right. Thanks. Kindly prepare refreshments for us, then.” “Will do right away, Miss.” “Thanks.” After hanging up, Rosette’s hand became busy cleaning her desk and arranging it as if she was really busy and productive. Well, she actually is! She just straight up forgot. When Tanya arrived, Rosette pretended like she was doing something to empress. “Oh! Did I visit at the wrong time? You seem so busy.” “Oh, you’re here! No. No, it’s okay. I actually know you’re coming over.” Rosette gestured Tanya to sit on one of the couches as she followed after. “Sorry for not able to answer your call. I just noticed. You know…” Rosette pointed at the piled-up papers on her desk. Tanya looked worried and guilty at the same time. “It’s okay.” She said, pertaining to the missed call. “Guess I’m really disturbing you, aren’t I? Should I come over next time?” She asked. Rosette frowned. “Can’t you take a joke? Of course, you’re not disturbing me. I’m actually happy you’re here. To what do I owe this pleasure by the way?” Tanya chuckled. Then she scratched the back of her head. “That’s the thing. I’m just here to invite you out. To put it shortly, I’m literally just disturbing you to have a lunch with me.” Rosette’s heart stopped. Did she hear that correctly? Tanya’s inviting her for lunch personally, right? Like a lunch date? Date? Rosette couldn’t process the word properly. “Sette?” She just stared at Tanya, tongue-tied. “Sette? Hello? Earth to Rosette?” When Tanya waved her hand in front of Rosette, that was when the woman snapped back to reality. “Wha- Yes! Let’s go on a date!” Rosette’s eyes widened. Her mouth just slipped. “A friendly lunch date! Right. That’s what I mean!” She corrected herself immediately. Tanya chuckled at the sight and stand. “Let’s go, then. I already ordered Gilbert to make reservations for us.” She said then went ahead.   --- Tanya’s I forked the last piece of the steak on my plate and put in my mouth. I cleaned myself after with the table napkin and drank the red wine from my glass. I leaned back on the chair. Why did I suddenly visit Rosette? “How’s the food?” I asked after seeing Rosette finished her meal. She smiled at me. “Great. It’s really delicious.” Then she looked around. “The place also looked pleasant. How come I did not hear about this?” She said, full of praises. “I’m actually a patron here. This is where I always eat if not at home.” “Really? I do understand why, though.” She took a sip to her wine. “By the way, what is it?” She asked. Sharp as always huh? “Well, I was busted so soon as expected. Here.” I said, then slid an envelope from my side to hers. She picked it up and scanned the contents. “I want you to give that man in the photo a job position in your hospital. May it be a janitor, a clerk, anything. I just want his name to be registered as our employee.” I told her. Rosette slowly returned the contents inside the envelope. Her expression showed an emotion I could read but couldn’t comprehend why. She should be curious about the man, but instead she looked like she’s… sad? “Look, Tanya. You don’t actually need to bring me to your favorite restaurant to ask this kind of favors to me. You can just message me and email his details later. You own the company, remember?” I understood Rosette’s point but was stunned at the same time. Why does her tone sound so cold? Is she mad? Why? “O-oh. Uhmm, well. I didn’t know. I’ll remember it next time.” I told her honestly. I really didn’t know. I just thought that she’s going to be curious and would have questions after. That’s why I brought her here at his restaurant. So, I could tell her the reason if by chance she’ll asked. Besides, even if I did know, I will still invite her here. I’ve been planning to, ever since. Our table turned silent as I continued on sipping the wine to ease my conscience. “Thanks, Sette. And I’m sorry.” I decided to break the silence. I am now totally worried that doing this really upsets her. However, Rosette suddenly smiled at me as a response. Her usual tone also came back when she spoke. “Oh, that’s okay. And you’re welcome.” She sighed. I somehow felt relieved by that. “Oh, and I thank you again for the food. It was really great. But I guess I have to bid goodbye now. I still have pending of works to do, sorry.” She suddenly said. She also began preparing to go that I was not able to stop her while she did so. And when she finally waved goodbye, I didn’t have a choice but to wave back. What a mood swing. Is Rosette on her period today? Guess so.
