Emily I don’t even remember deciding to walk. One second I’m sitting on that bench staring at Nicole’s phone like my brain just got hit by a truck and the next second I’m already marching across campus. Nicole keeps calling my name behind me but I’m not stopping. I’m done being quiet. I’m done being polite. And I’m definitely done being campus entertainment. “Emily, slow down ,” Nicole says as she catches up beside me, slightly out of breath. “ “I’m not slowing down,” I tell her. Because if I slow down I might cry. And I refuse to cry in public today. Apparently that slot is already booked for humiliation. Students keep staring as we pass. Some whisper. Some literally point.
