THE CONTRACT

ALEXANDER POV “Daisy?” I couldn’t get Sophia’s words out of my head. The whole ride back from Grandma’s place, they kept repeating. Daisy? I almost laughed out loud in the back of the car. Impossible. She was kind, loyal, and nothing like the tall, sharp-cheekboned women I usually dated. Those women wanted the money, the parties, the spotlight. Daisy just showed up every day and made my chaos disappear. But then it hit me. She was also the only woman who had never lied to me. Not once. Back at the office, I decided to watch her. It didn’t take long to notice. An angry investor called screaming about delayed reports. Daisy handled it from her desk, she was very calm and steady. “I understand your frustration, Mr. Patel. I’ve already sent the updated projections and added a personal note from Mr. King. The numbers are even better than last quarter,” She said ver professional. And then ten minutes later, the investor was laughing with her on the phone. The problem was already solved before it reached me. Around noon, she made a quiet call. “Yes, this is Daisy from Mr. King’s office. His grandmother mentioned her arthritis has been acting up. Could you deliver her favorite lilies today with the usual note?” She remembered Grandma’s medication schedule too and had the pharmacy send a refill. I never told her to do any of that. She just did it. Later, she stepped into my office with fresh coffee. “Don’t forget the anniversary dinner with Mr. Langford tonight. I already sent flowers and confirmed the reservation. You mentioned his wife loves chocolate, so I added a box of their favorites.” I stared at her. She practically ran my life. And she did it without asking for credit. By mid-afternoon, I was still thinking about Sophia’s crazy suggestion when the door to the outer office opened. Marcus strolled in like he owned the place. My cousin. Slick hair, expensive suit, permanent smug smile. “I heard Grandma finally got tired of cleaning up your scandals,” he said loudly enough for half the floor to hear. “Fake pregnancy. Missing millions, you're doing a very nice work, Alex.” I ignored him and kept typing. “What do you want, Marcus?” He laughed and dropped into the chair across from my desk. “Just checking on my favorite cousin. Grandma’s shares would look good in my portfolio.” Then his eyes slid past me to the open door. Daisy was standing there with a fresh stack of files. Marcus’s smile changed. He stood up and walked straight to her. “You must be the famous assistant,” he said smoothly. He took her hand and held it a little too long. “ Daisy politely pulled her hand back. “Nice to meet you, Mr. King. Can I get you anything?” Her voice stayed professional, but I saw the small step she took backward. Something hot flared in my chest. “Marcus. My office. Now.” He smirked but followed me inside. Daisy closed the door quietly behind us. The second he left ten minutes later. I stepped out to her desk. “Are you alright?” I asked. She smiled like always. “I’m fine, Mr. King.” I noticed it then. She always said she was fine. Even when she clearly wasn’t. She was always fine. The afternoon got worse. My phone rang. It was the Hargrove Capital. I put it on speaker. “Mr. King,” the representative said. “Our board has seen the recent scandal. We’re concerned about your public image. The concept of stability is key for this kind of partnership.” I gripped the phone tighter. “We’re handling it.” There was a pause. “We understand your grandmother mentioned you’re getting married soon. That would certainly help paint a more stable picture. Shall we proceed with the meeting under that assumption?” I froze. If I said no, the billion-dollar deal could collapse. “We’ll confirm details soon,” I said carefully and hung up. My mind started racing through several options I thought about so many socialites, Models, and even Businesswomen but non of them fits. I couldn’t trust any of them. All of them would eventually betray me or use me. I knew their type too well. I looked up through the glass wall of my office. Daisy was at the receptionist’s desk, laughing at something. Her cheeks were a little pink, her curves soft in that simple black skirt and blouse. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and went back to organizing files. Completely unaware I was watching. “She would never betray me.” I thought She knew every secret. Every weakness. And she had never used any of it against me. Not once. My heart beat harder. The idea was crazy. But it fit. I reached for the office phone before I could talk myself out of it. “Daisy.” “Yes, Mr. King?” “Cancel all my meetings tomorrow morning.” I said nervously “Of course.” I could hear her fingers already moving on the keyboard. “I’ll shift them right away.” I swallowed. “I need to discuss something important with you.” She answered without hesitation. “I’ll prepare whatever documents you need.” I hung up the phone. My eyes landed on the empty contract template open on my computer screen. A simple agreement. Terms. Conditions. Protection for both of us. I stared at it for a long moment, then whispered to myself, “God help me… I hope she says yes.” What could possibly go wrong?
