Color me invisible

254 Words
I was invisible, not the Hollywood kind of invisible but invisible in the sense that no one notices me. I could strut into the office wearing my blouse inside out and no one would even glance once at me. The only time I am noticed is when my co-workers wanted work off their hands. I stared blankly at my table, I could see almost eight files that were not mine. And no, I wasn't the junior lawyer, in fact, I was just a step away from being the senior. People take advantage of a lot of things about me, for one, I could almost not say no, even when I had my own cases to attend to. I closed my eyes and breathed in out, I was very tired. I had had to work in late through the month. I was sure I looked like I needed hibernation, my wig wasn't even well combed and there were bags under my eyes. I opened one of the files on my table then closed it. What to do? If I continue this way, I would have to call in at the hospital. I bumped my head on the table, thinking of a way to get away from everything work-related. A leave? My subconscious spoke up, I could have sworn I had someone else living in me. "Yeah, you are right!" I mouthed, smoothening my unruly wig. "You are so right," I repeated to myself. I snatched my keys and iPad and made for my boss's office.
