Chapter3: Paranoia

420 Words
Emma tried to shake off the feeling that she was being followed, but no matter how hard she tried, it lingered. She knew that it was irrational, but she couldn't shake the fear that she was in danger. At work, Emma found herself constantly looking over her shoulder, unable to focus on her job. She knew that she was being paranoid, but she couldn't help it. As the days went by, the feeling only intensified. Emma started to notice a strange car parked outside of the diner every day, and she couldn't help but wonder if it was following her. One night, as Emma was closing up the diner, she heard a noise behind her. She turned around, her heart racing, but there was no one there. She tried to brush it off as her imagination, but the fear continued to grow. Emma knew that she had to do something before her paranoia consumed her. The next day, she went to the police station to report her fears. The officer she spoke to was sympathetic, but he couldn't do much without concrete evidence. Feeling defeated, Emma left the station and started to walk home. As she turned a corner, she saw the same car parked on the street. Her heart racing, she started to run, but it was too late. A hand reached out and grabbed her, pulling her into the car. Emma struggled, but the man held her tight. "Relax, Emma," the man said, his voice calm. "It's me, Dominic. I've been watching over you." Emma's fear turned to anger. "What the hell, Dominic? Why were you following me?" "I was just making sure that you were safe," Dominic said, his eyes pleading with her. "I know that you've been scared, and I wanted to make sure that nothing happened to you." Emma took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "Okay, but you scared the hell out of me. Next time, could you maybe just, I don't know, talk to me?" Dominic nodded, his face serious. "Of course, Emma. I'm sorry. I just wanted to make sure that you were safe." As the car pulled away, Emma couldn't help but feel conflicted. On the one hand, she was grateful for Dominic's protection. On the other hand, she couldn't shake the feeling that he was involved in something dangerous. She knew that she needed to be careful, but she couldn't deny the pull that she felt towards him. Emma couldn't wait to see where their complicated relationship would lead.
