*Roger*
In all my 1600 years of living, I have not ever wanted to rip my brother’s heart from his chest cavity as much as I almost did just a few seconds ago.
I didn’t dare move or breathe for fear of losing my rationale and tearing him to shreds in front of my daughter.
My daughter. Sage.
I finally look at her face and can see the fear and disbelief written all over it. She was clearly in shock.
Mind Blown.
I know my appearance isn’t the best right now. She had never seen me so livid.
So murderous with such a blood lust.
Even if my fury wasn’t directed towards her, it was enough to leave drawn back defensively.
My anger wasn’t for her at all.
It was absolutely for the bastard lying on the floor who used his Royal gift to seduce my heir.
His niece.
Even if he hadn’t been introduced to her by me properly, it was no excuse.
He knew no one, and I mean absolutely no one, would be inside my home if they were not of the utmost importance to me.
He knew damn well what he was doing.
I was having trouble trying to even out my breathing once again. My fists were clenched at my sides.
My fangs were itching to come out. It wasn’t out of a need to feed, but out of a need to kill.
It was my royal blood alive and calling me to take every life in the room like old times.
I hated this part of me.
This is why I wasn’t actively sitting on the thrown.
No, that was why I temporarily let my brother reign in my place.
I thought he needed the responsibility to become more serious and grow to care for our legacy and what it means to rule
over a kingdom.
It seems he hasn’t changed one bit. This time he’s taken things too far.
He almost..... I closed my eyes to count to five.
Inhale and Exhale.
My daughter needs me. Our baby. Our treasure. Sage.
I slowly open my eyes and take in her appearance. She’s sitting on the counter still.
Her hair was disheveled, and her lips were bruised from kissing, I presume.
My heightened sight was filled with rage as they raked over every love mark and bite left on her by my brother.
He left no place on her skin untouched.
I could break his neck all over again. Her eyes were wide and continued to flicker between what she presumed was my brother’s lifeless body lying on the floor and myself.
“Is he....”
It was barely a whisper and it broke my heart to know that my daughter might be terrified of me.
I wish I had gotten to her first to prepare her for this world that she was unceremoniously dragged into.
I let out a tired sigh.
“No... He’ll live... for now. He’ll just be out for a few hours.”
I know my tone sounded heartless and from the look of disbelief on her face as she continued to stare at my brother, I couldn’t help but soften towards her.
I needed to get her out of here and as far away from Marcellus as possible.
It was that or either kill him and I was still leaning more towards the latter.
“How..how can you be so sure? Wh..what....what is...was.. what was he?”
Her questions were beginning to test my patience, and as much as I wanted to deal with this situation delicately, I knew
that I had to rip the bandage off.
“Vampire.”
There was no waver in my words, and she visibly swallowed.
Her eyes raced to his body, then to me, and back and forth again.
I could see the wheels turning in her mind.
A brilliant mind that I trained to go over every detail and come up with even the most impossible conclusions.
I conditioned her mind all these years for this moment.
Her eyes snapped back to me when she reached a theory that made the most sense to her.
“So that makes you a-”
“Vampire.”
She closed her eyes and shook her head slowly. I think I’ll give her a good ten seconds to process everything.
In the meantime... I reach into my pocket to pull out my cell phone. I dialed my pilot’s number and put the phone to my ear.
“Sire.”
Chester’s voice was clear and ready for command.
“Have the ”Beloved" ready within the next 30 minutes to fly out of the States. I also want new passports and driver’s
licenses, birth certificates, socials, burner phones, and a bloodstream tracking device waiting for Sage and me when we board. Is that clear?”
Sage’s eyes flew open at the word “we”. The look she gave me was full of confusion.
“Yes, anything else sire?”
“That’ll be all Chester. Notify me as soon as it’s done.”
I ended the call and focused on Sage. I would have plenty of time to coddle her after we leave.
Right now she needed to know I was in no mood to be challenged at the moment.
“Upstairs. You have 20 minutes to pack all that you need for an extended stay somewhere warm. That means essentials only. Whatever else you may need will be provided for you when you’ve reached your destination.
"After you’ve packed you will bring all of your items to the front door and head straight to my office immediately afterwards. You will be wise to follow every instruction that I have given you to the letter before you fix your mouth to utter a single syllable that resembles anything other than a ‘Yes’ Did I make myself perfectly clear?”
I fixed my steel gaze straight into her eyes with a look that she knew meant not to test me.
She gave me a tensed nod and slowly slid off of the counter.
Her movements were careful as she stepped over Marcellous’ unconscious body.
Her eyes met mine again as she hesitated when she was next to me.
She was close enough to me that I got a whiff of their earlier activities.
It made my blood boil all the more.
The scent of my brother all over hers nearly sent me into a deadly frenzy, and I barely contained my rage as I raised my voice.
“I said upstairs now Sage Willow Middleton. And for goodness sake, take a shower before you do anything. I can’t stand his scent all over my little girl. Now hurry and present yourself decently for the trip.”
I watched as she scurried up the stairs, and then I heard her door slam close.
I turned back to my brother’s body on the kitchen floor.
My fury flared again as I walked over to him and grabbed his ankle.
I drug his body over to the basement door before opening it and descending down the stairs.
I made sure his head hit every step on the way down as I made my way to the dungeon hidden underneath the estate.
Once we made it to the cells meant to hold supernatural creatures, it took all of ten minutes.
I stopped at a wall that secretly stored torture devices and serums.
My eyes quickly scanned the syringes filled with liquids and found the ones that were labeled ‘Silver’ and ‘Blue Vervain’.
An evil smirk made its way to my lips. This would buy us plenty of time to fly out and get settled.
My brother needed to be reminded of his place, but he was lucky I had to hurry back to Sage and explain everything to
her without breaking down her psyche.
This would be a lot to take in.
I opened his shirt and raised his arm as I injected the sliver into his armpit.
That would hurt like a b***h if he were conscious.
No matter, he will feel it as soon as he awakens. I move to his chest and inject the Blue Vervain into his heart.
He was a royal vampire so neither of those would kill him, but those combined ingredients would need a week to leave his system.
He would be writhing in pain during that time until I returned to deal his punishment accordingly.
Blue vervain weakens vampires and the dose I gave him would kill a normal vampire.
Nope, his royal blood started boiling through it moments after it hit his bloodstream.
It would just leave him weak with the strength of a human infant for 7 days.
It is the same as the silver, which killed most supernaturals when it reached the bloodstream.
This would only render him unconscious for 3 extra days.
He deserved so much worse than this. However, I did need to get back to Sage. Sage. Our treasure.
I turned my back to my brother as I left the cell and heard the sound of its automatic closure.
The room had no windows and no bed.
I glared at the cell as it went into lockdown mode.
“You wanted to visit brother. Well, I hope you enjoy the stay.”
I used my vampire speed to run to my office. Once inside, I go to sit in my chair as I await Sage’s arrival.
I mentally prepared myself for every possible outcome.
When there was a timid knock on the door, I knew it was time.
I didn’t need to look at my Rolex to know that only 18 minutes had gone by.
Sage was always punctual. Just as I rased her to be.
I stilled my emotions and remembered the words of my Beloved before she left this insufferable world without me.
That when the time comes to tell Sage the truth and explain everything, to be gentle and patient.
I promise to be gentle and patient even now, my love.
I sighed and responded calmly to the sof knocking.
“Come in, Sage. There is much to discuss.”
