Charlie POV
After a day day of traveling, I come up on a human town. The female scents skirt the edge of town until they near the coastline. The scent is weakened by the sea salt, but not gone. Realizing I am still in wolf form, I shift back quickly. Last thing I need is to freak out some humans. Several people are splashing around in the water. Odd for Autumn, but I am grateful. I snag a pair of shorts and continue my journey.
The scents head into a large hotel. ‘Now what.’ Thesus groans. ‘Honestly? I think we should go right in. We can ask the front desk person to leave a note.’
‘What do we tell them? Oh hey, I’m half naked and want to leave a note for two female travelers whose names and descriptions I cannot give.’
Shit. He’s right. ‘How about we go check it out at least?’
I take his silence as agreement. Opening the front door I am hit with a strong scent of sea salt and caramel. It’s intoxicating. Ignoring the weird looks from humans, I follow my nose. Back in the office tucked behind the front desk sits the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Green eyes snap to mine. “Mate.” we whisper in unison.
We close the distance and just stare at each other. Grabbing my hand, she leads me to the elevator. Selecting the top floor, she waits for the doors to shut before pouncing on me. Her touch is electrifying. We’re making out like a couple of hormonal teens. Hands roaming everywhere, kisses wet and hot.
The elevator dings and the doors open. This must be a VIP floor being only one door at the end of the hall. We’re still holding each other.
“Charles” I say, “but everyone calls me Charlie.”
“Theodora, but everyone calls me Thea.”
Breaking our embrace, she takes my hand and leads me to the door. “I know who you seek. It is important you all meet.”
My task! I completely forgot! A black-haired woman looking to be 40 something answers the door. Her icy blues seem familiar.
“He came to help.” Looking from Thea to the woman, I offer a warm smile and outstretched hand. “I’m Charlie. I am the Gamma at Bloodmoon. Alpha Woodson asked that I track your scent from the mountains.”
“Let him in Rosie.”
From the kicthen comes Luna Tate from Silvermoon. “Shit.” All the women looking at me in surprise. “This is going to be a bigger mess than we thought.”
Upon entering the room, the black-haired woman closes and locks the door behind us. A moment of silence ensues before Luna Tate speaks up, “How about this. We tell you what we know, then you do the same. That includes you Thea.”
We nod in agreement. She continues on, “You obviously recognize me. My friend here is Rosemary Ellis. Wife of Robert Ellis, my packs head warrior.”
I remain silent. I knew her eyes were familiar. I know her both of her sons. Pricks if you ask me. I gesture for her to continue.
“Rosie and I have suffered abuse from our husbands for many years. Our pack has become vile. Most members turned nasty over the last few decades. Her daughter Emerald has also suffered....”
I suck a breath. I know that name. Everyone stills, noticing my reaction to her name. “I’ll explain once you’ve finished Luna.”
Steadying herself, she picks back up, “We have brought with us enough evidence to take down the pack. Every evil thing they have done, we can prove. We want to live out a peaceful life away from our husbands, but unless they are dealt with, that will never happen. There are a few good families left in our pack. We cannot abandon them.
The night we left, we planned to meet Emerald in the mountains. She was to come with us. Her other daughter”, pointing at Rosemary, “arrived with a man about your age. My son Jeremy then arrived. Emerald stepped out of hiding to delay him. Us being caught would mean death or worse....” Her watery eyes staring out the window. I take it as my que.
“The man you seen that night was my alpha. Cassidy brought him there to reject him. She thought he was a warrior from our pack.” Both women quirk a brow. “She couldn’t scent he was ranked because he’s special. By special I mean his wolf talks to the moon goddess herself. He has some abilities and honestly I think he gets a new one every day. I can’t keep up.”
Their faces mirror shock. Thea on the other hand looks like this isn’t news. I give her hand a squeeze and continue. “Short version. Jeremy showed up, he and Emerald are fated. He had the sick idea of keeping her as a side piece and making Cassidy luna. His wolf started the rejection process, but Jeremy took over. Cassidy attacked my alpha from behind, causing him to fall unconscious. Honestly, it would've killed another wolf. He woke up, everyone was gone.
His wolf told him Emerald is his second chance mate. We currently know nothing on her whereabouts, just that she is okay. The moon goddess assured his wolf of that.”
As a group we head to the sofa and sit. This is a lot to take in. There is so much to plan. Rosemary looks over to Thea. “Your turn to spill.”
Taking in a deep breath she starts, “Before I knew Charlie was my mate, I knew he was coming. Well I didn’t know it was Charlie exactly, but I knew a man was coming to find the two of you and he would help.”
“How?” Rosemary seemed more comfortable with us now.
“My aunt told me.”
“Who the hell is your aunt and how does she know such things?” Her tone earns a low growl from me. Raising her hands in surrender, she gestures she’s done talking and ready to listen.
“Selene.”
“The Selene?” Robyn looks as if the oxygen has left the room.
“The one and only.” Thea lets out a small chuckle. “Can I finish or are you all going to keep interrupting?”
She’s met with silence. “As I was saying, Selene let me know.I have some abilities. That’s a whole talk for another time. I just know I am to help you all. Her hands are tied so to speak. I am the loophole. There is more than meets the eye with this. We are going to need as much help as we can get.”
Rising to my feet I announce, “We have to go back to Bloodmoon. We are safest there. Despite making false trails on my way here, I’m sure Alpha Tate has sent several trackers. We need to leave ASAP.”
Luna Tate and Rosemary hurriedly begin packing. Thea remains on the couch unbothered. Backpacks in hand and a bag of what smells like herbs, the women are ready.
“Is there a back way out of this joint?” I look to Thea. Rising to her feet she smirks, “I have something even better.” Grabbing my hand she reaches for the Luna’s and nods for her to grab Rosemary’s. Before any of us can question what she’s up to, we disappear in a puff of pure white smoke.
