The Appearing Game

644 Words
Cooper POV Sam and I are going over some contracts in my office when a cloud of white smoke appears, then my Gamma, Luna Tate, an unknown black-haired woman, and a young woman with white blonde hair. “What the hell?!” Sam’s on his feet along with myself. Everyone looks as surprised as us. All save for the blonde. She looks cool as a cucumber. “Alpha, we have a lot of catching up to do.” Looking to Charlie I see his strawberry blonde hair an absolute mess. I see he’s still holding on to blondie’s hand. ‘Thea.’ Cassius chimes in. ‘She’s a demigod. Neice to Selene. Charlie’s mate. She’s here to help.’ Making eye contact with her I say, “Nice to meet you, Thea.” She seems caught off guard, something she must not be used to. The other women can’t seem to get their jaws off the floor. “I told you he talks to the moon goddess.” Charlie’s cocky grin spreading. After some quick introductions, I get the low down. Sitting back in my chair, I mindlink Mrs. Smith the house manager. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I tell everyone to turn in early tonight. Turning to the Luna and Mrs. Ellis, “My house manager Mrs. Smith has arranged rooms for you both. She is waiting outside the door, ready to show you. Tomorrow we all meet back here for 7.” Sam opens the door for the two women. Charlie and Thea head out behind. “Oh Charlie.” I yell, “I had some food and water sent to your room. Don’t worry, I told everyone to leave you alone tonight.” A pink tint graces Thea’s cheek. How they remained calm and collected this whole time is hugely impressive. Being this close to your mate and not having had marked or mated them must be incredibly painful. I have not seen my second chance in days, and I feel like I am going mad. “I’ll finish up in here Coop while you go for a run.” Sam offers a sad smile. He knows how much I am struggling. Placing a hand on his shoulder I nod. The cool evening air will feel good. Provide some calm. I hope. Sneaking out the back door has me feeling like a young wolf again. I chuckle to myself, the big bad alpha avoiding everyone. Going out of the back of his own house. I stride across the yard to the tree line. I find my favorite oak tree to stash my clothes by. Stretching will hopefully calm me down a little. ‘I am ready Coop. Can we run now?’ He is on edge. I can’t help but feel like there is something he isn’t telling me. I know if the moongoddess has asked him to, he will keep the secret. I know he doesn’t care for it, but how do you say no to a goddess? I give Cass control. We shift midair. Our paws making a thud as we hit the ground. Without giving me time to adjust, he takes off in a hurry. ‘Where’s the fire bud?’ “No fire Coop. Just need to run.’ Deciding not to push him further, I try to relax. That is the whole reason for this adventure. After an hour or so of running, I feel Cass slowing down. Becoming alert to our surroundings, I see a beautiful lake surrounded by forest. Trotting up to the lake, I notice the leaves are turning color. This truly is my favorite time of the year. The sun is starting to set, casting orange hues across the sky. Watching Cass as he laps the water, I cannot help but admire my wolf. He is completely silver save for a small patch of white on his snoot.
