CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE While Charlotte prepped the ingredients for an omelette, Trev went downstairs to collect the cane trunk. He let himself into the bookshop with her key and scooped the trunk up, a little surprised by its weight. After resetting the alarm and locking the door, he hurried to the stairs, raindrops hitting his head. Charlotte held the door ajar for him and he turned sideways to fit the trunk through at the same time. “This is what you found in the storeroom?” “Yes, last year. Put it anywhere. Do you want to eat first?” He lowered it onto the floor in the living room. “Starving.” Something smelled good. “Need a hand?” She was back in the kitchen, all traces of her earlier distress hidden behind a smile. “Um, yes, if you can set the table. Do you want to eat in or out?”
