CHAPTER ELEVEN The corner café was busy, so Charlotte ordered the coffees and said she’d be back. She peeked into Lewis’ shop to make sure he was alone, and seeing him up a ladder at the back of the shop, she ducked in. “Isn’t this where we met?” she asked. He looked down at her with a wide smile. “My darling girl. Yes, I believe I was stocking this precise shelf when you wandered in requiring a gift for a certain special lady.” Before Christmas, with no idea what Rosie might like, Charlotte had ventured into Lewis’ beautiful homewares shop. He’d agreed a new teapot was in order and been a welcome friendly face in a town she barely knew. Now, as Rosie’s suitor—as Lewis liked to call himself—he had become a firm friend to Charlotte. As he climbed down, Lewis chatted about the weather.
