Chapter 27   Declan woke to the sound of beeping and the smell of antiseptic. He blinked against the stark white of the hospital walls. Apparently, his wound was worse than he thought. He turned his head, and his eyes settled on Layla curled up at his bedside. This woman really was his ride or die. He took her in for a moment—the soft curve of her face, the lush swell of her bottom lip, and the serene look in her relaxed features.
