CHAPTER4:

Seraphina's POV Everywhere blurred in my eyes as I realized what was going on. I was about to become a rogue with no family, no friends and no wolf. I knew deep within me that I would never be able to survive a day out in the forest without being torn apart. I looked up to my father for help, but his face was blank and betrayed no emotion. Marcus still stood next to me, and I could feel the heat of his body, but I knew he was not going to help me. I fell on my knees because I knew at that moment that there was no other choice. And so I began to beg. "Please, elder Grover, don't send me away. Send me to the kitchens or to the armory, even to the infirmary. I will pick up every single chore that I have to , I will leave beneath an omega, I will do whatever you command, just don't send me away. Don't send me out there, please." I cried. I was rubbing my palms together furiously as the tears streamed down my face, hoping my anguish would soften their hearts. Grover shook his head in disappointment. Then, he turned to my father. "See how your daughter disgraces you and taints your prowess." "She is no daughter of mine." My father said in finality. "Get up and leave, just as you've been instructed and never show your face within these borders ever again." "Father, please. I'm still your child. Please, just give me one last chance to prove to you that I can be better." I kept crying. "Lydia!" My father bellowed. Lydia stepped out from the crowd where she had been standing next to our mother. Even our mother looked disappointed, and not even she could save me. She sidled up next to our father with a smirk. He held her hand and raised it, presenting her before the entire village and the elders. "I now name you, Lydia Ashwood, as my heir, and betroth her to Marcus Blackthorn." That was when I knew it was all over. There was nothing left for me here now. I stood up in shame. "Leave, before the festivities are over. You no longer belong here." Grover said. I looked around one last time, taking in the ambience of a place I once called home and the only home I had ever known. "My lady," Elena said sadly as she walked beside me. I couldn't even bear to look at her. The only person who has managed to show me kindness today. "For what it's worth, I don't think you're worthless. You're the only noble in the village that treats the omegas with respect, and even if you don't have a wolf, you will still remain in our hearts." Her words were like a band aid, and somehow they soothed the ache in my heart even though they didn't completely heal me. I gave her a watery smile and thanked her. "Thank you so much for your kind words." "You can come and stay in my shack for a while before you leave," she offered. I quickly shook my head blatantly. It wasn't a good idea if she was caught harboring a banished wolf, then she could be put to death. She seemed to read my thoughts, and she smiled encouragingly. "No one would know you're there. I'm a lowly omega, and they wouldn't think that an omega would dare to defile their decision and house you." Even though it sounded nice, it was still dangerous and I couldn't put her through such danger. "It's okay, Elena. I have to leave before the festivities are over. I'm sure I can find a way to survive." She smiled sadly and nodded. Her steps fell behind as she left me to continue to my house so I could pack the little I could carry with me on my journey. I had just reached the pack borders when a voice stopped me. "Seraphina..." I turned around immediately to see Marcus standing there. I panicked and stumbled backwards, causing me to fall to the ground. My knees caught against the ground, and I felt the bruise there. "Ah." I winced in pain. Marcus quickly rushed forward to help, but I shrugged him off. "Stay away from me!" I said in anger. He lifted his hands immediately and looked at me in pity. "I hoped you'd understand why I did what I did." He stated. I scoffed angrily and stood up, ignoring the pain in my legs from where I had sustained injuries. "I didn't think rejecting you would lead to getting you exiled." "And yet, it did and you couldn't even defend me. Please, just stay away. I have to go now." "No, come back with me. I'll speak with the elders and get them to overrule their decision." "I don't want anything from you!" I spat. He didn't try to stop me anymore, but footsteps began to rush towards us. I looked behind him to see some of the warriors advancing with full speed, brandishing their weapons like they wanted to kill me. "You set me up! You came here pretending you wanted to help, while you had soldiers waiting to capture me and kill me. I'm already leaving, Marcus! It doesn't have to come to this." I pleaded. "No... I didn't..." I didn't give him a chance to explain or say anything else. I turned and fled without even thinking about where I was going. When the pursuit had calmed down, I leaned against a tree and looked ahead, and that was when it d awned on me. I had run into the forbidden woods.
