CHAPTER5:

Seraphina's POV My anxiety tripled as I looked around the forest. The forbidden woods was a dangerous forest where no wolf dared to venture into no matter the circumstances. Everywhere was dark and quiet, and because I didn't have a wolf, I couldn't turn on my night vision. I stumbled through the darkness, groping the trees and trying to retrace my steps to see if I could find my way out. Somehow, I stumbled deeper into the forest and lost my way. "s**t, s**t!" I cursed and groped around in my backpack for a flashlight. I turned it on quickly using it to see the steps ahead. I didn't know what to do now that I was deep in the forest. Stories of rogues and dark witches who inhabited the forest haunted me. My breath came out fast and heavy. I saw a wooden shack in the corner somewhere and carpet towards it hoping it was empty so I could hide in there for the night and continue my journey when it was morning. I didn't make it to the shack. I heard growls and snarls emanating from deep in the forest. I quickly turned off the flashlight even though I knew it was of no use. If these animals were wolves, then they wouldn't have any trouble seeing me clearly even in the dark. I hid behind a tree and waited for the footsteps to pass. When everywhere was quiet again, I sighed in relief and came out from behind the tree only to come face to face with the glowing eyes of three rogue wolves. I screamed in horror and turned to run. But I didn't get far. One snatched me from the air and threw me against the ground. "No, no, no! Please. Please, don't kill me. I've done nothing wrong!" I pleaded. I fought against the paw pinning me to the ground, but I only caused myself more injury. The wolf stared at me with fascination in his eyes. "You're going to be the best meal I've ever tasted." His voice projected into my head. "No! Let me go!" I suddenly realized they were not normal wolves. There was something different about them. They looked like they had been altered and twisted into something else by dark magic. He leaned in closer to me and licked my throat. I knew what that meant. He liked my scent, and he was savoring it before he bit into me. My heart dropped because I knew I was going to die. I had no power to fight against a wolf. He raised his head to the sky and let out a loud howl. His two counterparts mirrored his actions and began circling us. He raised his paw to strike, and I shut my eyes instantly and prayed to the goddess to make my death swift and painless. But death never came. Instead, fire exploded deep inside me, and I growled loud enough to be heard by the neighboring villages. The wolf was thrown back by the force. I quickly sprang up and crouched low on the ground, snarling with bared fangs and daring the wolves to come forward. I didn't know where the burst of strength had come from or what was happening in that moment, but it seemed I had been granted power to fight. The wolves charged and I didn't hesitate. I tore into them angrily and with so much vigor. The largest swiped against my neck, but I quickly blocked his blow and struck back at him instead. He fell to the ground with his neck slicked open, and blood poured. I howled at the sight. Fear gripped the other two, and they began retreating, back into the shadows. But I could see them now, very clearly. I went after them, too and made sure they didn't escape my wrath. The one who had pinned me to the ground, whom I suspected was the leader was the first to stop running. "You've got balls." He snarked at me. I didn't bother saying anything in return, I only had one thought in mind, and that was to kill him. The other wolf moved from my peripheral vision, and my instincts reacted. My body moved before my brain could catch up. I snatched his mud air and slammed him against a tree. His back broke with a violent c***k, and he fell to the ground disfigured. "Yield!" I growled at the leader. He didn't. He moved to come at me again, but something inside me snapped, and I stomped my foot on the ground. He stopped dead in his tracks. "Submit," I said, low and dangerous. Something inside him shifted, and he yielded to my command. I walked up to him and slammed my fists into his neck. I let my claws tear into his flesh and rip him apart until he was nothing beneath me but a pool of blood. I breathed heavily, trying to calm myself down. "What just happened?" I whispered to myself. I was soaked in blood. I heard the sound of a creek nearby, and I rushed to it so I could wash off the blood. The reflection I saw staring back made my eyes widen in shock, and my jaw dropped. I was glowing silver, like the moon. My hair, my eyes, my face. I looked down at myself, wondering what was happening. I grabbed my backpack in fear and began to run because I didn't want anyone to see me this way. I ran towards the shack I had seen earlier and tried to open, but it was locked. I don't know how to get it open. I turned again so I could run deeper into the woods, but the door behind me creaked, and I heard it open slowly. "What the...?" I turned around to see an old man who looked like he was in his mid sixties looking at me in awe. "You must be the Ashwood girl." He said. How did he know that?
