A Burden

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, let me clean it for you". Layla apologized as she stared at the shoes. "I wish I could though, but Anna soiled them pretty badly, I'm sorry again, do not put me in your bad book please". With that, Layla ran after Annalise. Meanwhile, Zane stared straight ahead, but his expression was nothing to write home about, it was dark, he looked like he could kill someone, anyone right now. The students all know he had mysophobia. "Very sorry sir" a guard ran to him with a tissue cleaning his shoe. Zane took deep breaths before walking away. The students that had taken a video started posting it on every social media platform they were on. "Yes, she's definitely dead" Layla muttered, she was hiding in a corner hoping to dodge Zane. She had tried looking for Annalise, but she seemed to have disappeared. "Talk about having a headache as a friend" Layla roughed her head frustratingly. . . . Later that day "Dad, where are we going?" Annalise asked. Her dad had suddenly asked her to get dressed. "It's a surprise" Smith said. Annalise creased her brows, her dad has been acting weird a lot lately. "Is something wrong daddy?" She asked. "No my dear, quick, let's leave". Annalise nodded, she was in a pink dress and white sandal heels. They both got into Smith's car and he drove off. They stopped in an unfamiliar house. It was huge, and the most beautiful Annalise had ever seen. It was white with glass walls and doors. They got in and Annalise was awestruck. She hadn't seen anything like it, the inside was even huger than the outside. "It's beautiful and huge daddy, why are we here?" She asked, but Smith didn't reply. Soon, clicks of heels were heard from the staircase, a woman came down, she looked like she was in her late 40s or even a bit younger, she was tall and elegant. "Hello ma'am", Smith greeted, bowing slightly. "Smith, how are you?" "I'm very fine, ma'am" Smith replied, bowing slightly. Annalise stared from her dad to the lady and back to her dad again. "This is your daughter?" The lady asked, touching Annalise's cheeks in fondness. "Yes ma'am," Smith replied. "Oh Smith, I told you to drop the ma'am s**t, that's for my workers to say, you're an old friend". Smith nodded. "Hello dear" the lady said, turning to Annalise. "Hi" Annalise muttered. "What's your name?" "Annalise" "A very beautiful name for a beautiful lady like you, I'm Cassandra, but it's okay if you call me Sandra, like your father hates doing". "Okay Sandra" Annalise muttered. "Have you told her yet?" Sandra asked Smith. "No" Smith shook his head, confusing Annalise even more. "Then, I'm giving you guys just 30 minutes, my son will be here anytime from now," Sandra said, and walked to the dining room while Smith took Anna to a corner. "What's this all about?" Anna asked. "The truth is, you're getting married," Smith said. "What??" Anna screamed in shock. "And it's my fault because Sandra and I had a deal when you were a baby that if you became 23 you'd get married to her son. I didn't have much of a choice, baby, I swear”. "Your mom was in the hospital for too long and there was no money to pay for her, luckily Sandra offered to help. I didn't like the idea at first, but I had to take your mom from the hospital, so I accepted, I'm sorry". Anna was in total shock. She stepped back a little, she was getting married?. Was she a tool for a deal? "I'm sorry baby, I really am," Smith pleads again and tries to hug her, but Anna shifts back. "30 minutes is up you both," Sandra yelled from the dining room, and Anna walked away from her father to Sandra. "Master Zane is here, ma'am" a maid announced and Sandra nodded, standing up, Annalise stood up too, and a butler that was beside Sandra stood up as well. "Finally, son, you made it," Sandra said with a smile. Zane ignored her, but his eyes caught a small figure. "Who's she?" He asked. "Oh, this is Annalise Ford, your fiancé. You'll be getting married to her," his mom replied. Zane's eyes darkened as he stared at the small figure who hid behind the butler. He scoffed angrily, not only was she short, she was also weak. "Why do I have to carry a burden?" He asked again. "She's not a burden, she'll be yours to protect. You had better treat her nicely. Only Annalise knew why she had hidden behind the butler. The man she was getting married to was Zane, but she wasn't happy about it. In fact, she has mixed emotions right now. The only thing she was hoping for was for Zane not to recognize her, but too late because he was staring intensely at her. "You look familiar," he said. She choked on her food. "Oh poor dear, sorry, why would you scare her like that?" Sandra asked, giving Annalise a cup of water to drink. "You're that girl". "Which girl?" Annalise asked, looking elsewhere. "The one that stepped on me this morning," Zane replied, still staring at her. "I don't know who you're talking about," Annalise said. "Are you saying you have a short memory?" "Something of the sort, yes." "But that happened 5 hours ago." "That was 8 hours ago actually" Annalise said, but immediately regretted it. "So you are she" Zane said with an angry smirk. "They get along pretty well, don't you think?" Sandra asked the butler, who nodded without a word...
